2) Introduction

Alone in the Dark is a survival horror game that is often attributed to being one of the 'inspirations' for Resident Evil. Created in 1992 originally for the MS-DOS (Which plays a LOT smoother than the 3DO version) by Infogames, the game is set in the 1920's Louisiana and sets up the player to solve puzzles and fight monsters all throughout a haunted house. While this one is the 3DO version which was ported to the system in 1994
This set was created by mopain85 along with some code contribution by Hotscrock & on a personal note I think they did a great job with this set. It covers pretty much everything I believe this game has to offer and the difficulty isn't too bad at all.
This guide is primarily for Missables & I will try to leave out any spoilers to it. So the player can still enjoy the story & experience while not being concerned of missing anything on the first playthrough. There are few achievements I've left out due to them being rather simple & straight forward. I.E. Kill the Spider Beast & Kill both bird creatures.
3) Gameplay
This game has what many have considered as "tank controls". Albeit it's a bit difficult to grasp at first, I believe anyone can become accustom to it after some practice. The game introduces a weight system so it's a good idea that after each book you read you should "throw" it or "drop" it to keep your inventory clean. This can be said for any empty oil cans & flasks as well. It can also be difficult sometimes to switch to "Fight" to "Open/Search" option in the menu but again isn't too bad when you get use to it.
4) Missable Achievements
Important Note By the Author Before Reading:
This guide is not entirely set up for linear gameplay. I did the best I could but some areas you can get to before others so some achievements may pop before others. Also some achievements are meant for set up for future achievements like the Marksman or Gunslinger achievements. Also many "Point of No Returns" are set up with "crossing the bridge". This is not entirely true since there is technically still a chance you can go back and read some books before leaving the house. However, it can possibly cause some issues for the Master Librarian achievement since you have to read the Pirate Note last. So to keep from a replay I've put that measure in to help anyone following this guide.
Alone in the Loft
At the beginning of the game, do not let the two monsters invade the loft.
There are two monsters that spawn in the Attic with you at the beginning of the game. As soon as you get control run behind you and push the dresser up to block the window. Note: You have to select the "Push" option in the menu to push an object.
Shortly after on the other side of the attic is a treasure chest you can push over the latch on the floor.

The Twilight Zone
In the fireplace room, collect 4 items and leave without disturbing the Shadow
Do NOT touch the shadow/ghost in the chair. She will kill you. There are 4 items in this room to grab. Shotgun Shells, Gramophone, A Poker, & Matches:

This book will be sitting on top of the table so fairly easy to grab. (Sorry screenshot was grabbed AFTER I grabbed the book xD):

Maniac Mansion
Collect the two items from the bathroom and leave without taking damage from the monster
This one is a tricky one & can take a few tries if not fast enough. My best suggestion once you find this room, go outside it, save & attempt. Saving beforehand will allow you to retry it without losing too much time & backtracking. Luckily the two items are right next to each other.

Reading this book outside of the circle will kill you. Even being some pixels off can kill you so I strongly suggest saving before reading & attempting this cheevo:

Library Monster
Defeat the Library Monster
If you read the Sacrificial Dagger page it shows what dagger can kill the Library Monster, but for convenience this is the correct one:
This dagger can be collected where the De Vermis Mysteriis was found.

Found above the fireplace. When picking up this it will trigger a monster spawning:

Hell's Kitchen
Pacify the 5 zombies in the dining room without causing damage to them
Enter the Kitchen first & grab the pot in the corner over the fire:
Then quickly "Put" it on the table with all the zombies. One of the zombies will start moving towards an empty chair. He won't attack you just let me them be (Note: Screenshot is the aftermath):
Point of no return - Damage one of the zombies before putting the pot down on the table.
Revolver
Find the Revolver
Found in the shoebox of the pantry:

Gunslinger
Find and use 2 sets of revolver ammo. Use both at the same time without reloading.
Find the two sets of revolver ammo. First one is in the dark room in the dresser which you'll have to drop the lantern for a moment to grab them:
2nd Set is located in the Cellar part of the "Cellar Assault" achievement:
There is some confusion on how this one triggers based on reading some comments. However for me to trigger this all that was needed was to "use" both bullets in the gun. I.E. Load the gun with both sets of ammo and the cheevo should pop. You should not have to fire them all to trigger it.

Full Tank
Find and load the 2 cans of oil in the lamp
First oil can can be found right after coming down from the attic:
Second oil can location is in the pantry with the Revolver:
Make sure to "use" both oil cans in the lamp and the cheevo should pop.

Long Life
Find and use the 3 healing items
First location is in the cabinet in the bathroom at the beginning:
Second location is part of the "Maniac Mansion" cheevo inside the cabinet in the bathroom where the monster is:
Third location is in the kitchen in one of the side rooms where a key is located. This one is box of biscuits though instead of a normal flask/health pack:
Use all 3 to trigger the cheevo.

This can be found on the shelf right before being able to head downstairs into the secret passage. This also contains the 2nd vinyl location:

En Garde!
Defeat the Pirate without taking damage
This may take some practice but the idea is save before entering the room. Once you open the door equip the sword and charge at the Pirate. Keep hitting him and moving one step closer to put him in a corner. Eventually he will be backed into a corner and you can keep hitting him over & over. Just don't get too close because some of the hit detection in this game can be rough.
Those From Without
Read "Demonia Particularis"
This book can be found on the ground after defeating the pirate.

By All the Devils
Read "The Trial of Captain Pregzt"
This is located within the Cellar and is part of the "Cellar Assault" achievement.

Symphony of the Night
Find and play 3 Records on the Gramophone
To get this cheevo you have to play the wrong vinyls first before playing the correct one. For reference again here is the location of the 3 vinyl's:

After having all 3 vinyls make sure to play this one vinyl LAST:

Marksman
Find and load rifle ammunition
There is only one spot for rifle ammunition and it's also part of the "Twilight Zone" achievement. To trigger this achievement just "use" the rifle ammunition into the gun.

Cellar Assault
In the cellar, collect 3 items and leave without getting hurt
Once you get the key to the cellar and open it, make sure you have enough inventory for 3 items. Go down to the cellar and grab all 3 items. Here is the location of all 3:

The last item is a block for the barrels, once you pull the block the barrels will roll & can kill you. So be sure to be facing them in a way they won't roll on you:

Master Librarian
Find and read all 18 Texts (pirate note last)
This achievement will trigger after reading the Pirate Note for the FIRST time. (Rereading it after the others does not count). By following the following the guide that should cover all the books & locations.
