A Link to the Past Glitch Showcase Subset (SNES) - RetroAchievements/guides GitHub Wiki
Set Difficulty | 7 (out of 10) |
Approximate time to master | 4-10 hours |
Minimum numbers of playthroughs needed | 1 |
Number of missable achievements | 25 |
Does difficulty affect achievements? | Not applicable |
Hardest achievement of the set | No Gloves Needed (10) |
This subset for A Link to the Past focuses primarily on glitches that are used in various major glitches categories of the speedrun, and a few tricks that are universally applicable. This guide will assume familiarity with locations in the game world and dungeon layouts when not using glitches. The majority of the achievements in this set are missable, if you follow this guide exactly you will not miss any of them though.
Due to the nature of the glitches involved there are some frame perfect tricks required, but all of them will be based on your own inputs.
There are a few points where I'll specifically tell you to save and quit, but in general save and quit often while attempting this set. It is very easy to do something wrong and softlock yourself, and that can cause a lot of lost progress if you haven't saved recently.
This particular guide will also serve as a walkthrough to the entire set. Alternative ways to earn some of these achievements do exist, but I will primarily focus on setups that are relatively easy to replicate.
I'm Taking Zelda With Me (5) Obtain the Triforce with Zelda following you [No Items aside from Starting Sword and Shield]
Start the game as normal, but avoid opening any treasure chests. Any keys you need are dropped by guards. You are allowed to pick up the Big Key from the ball and chain guard. After you've spoken with Zelda and she's following you, proceed as normal until you reach a room where there are ledges you can jump off.
Next you'll want to jump down a ledge, in the middle of your jump Save and Quit the game. Immediately load your save, and get hit by the ball and chain guard. This should cause Link to disappear underneath the floor, if it's not working you probably did not save and quit quickly enough, it has to be done fairly quickly after Link starts the jump. You're now in a state called Exploration Glitch (EG). You are out of bounds, though some rooms may force you back in bounds, and some walls will also allow you to get back in bounds. For this achievement we explicitly want to avoid doing so.
Warning: You can get softlocked while in EG, though you should be able to save and quit to return to Zelda's Cell safely.
While I will be providing directions, an EG map is available for reference here.
Walk right until the screen transitions once, then keep walking upwards until you're one screen transition past the room with the three treasure chests, from there walk left until the screen transitions, you'll hear the music change, then keep walking upwards. You'll pass by Ganon (don't worry he can't hurt you), and when you leave the screen to the north of him you'll get the achievement. Make sure to stick around and watch the rainy credits, that's important for the next achievement.
In the Rainy Dark World with Zelda (1) As Bunny Link, be joined by Zelda in the Dark World (Continuation of taking Zelda to Triforce) [No Items Except Starting Sword and Shield]
If you've fully watched the credits, you can now soft reset. Load your existing save, which should now have a counter equal to the amount of times you used save and quit getting to the credits. The moment you load your save you should immediately get this achievement. Saving and quitting will make it so next time you load your save you'll be back to Zelda's cell, though feel free to explore the rainy Dark World a little first.
No Light Source Needed (5) Bring Zelda to the Sanctuary without the Lamp [Exploration Glitch Allowed]
Set up EG again like you did for the first achievement, and follow the same directions up until you go past the room with the three treasure chests. Where you went left, instead go right one screen transition, and you should be able to jump back in bounds using the walls on the screen you're on. Proceed as you would in a normal game from here and you'll get the achievement.
Before heading to Eastern Palace you'll need to pick up the Boomerang. You can also pick up the Lamp which will make navigating some of the rooms in there easier, there are no achievements you can lock yourself out of by getting more hearts so feel free to grab any pieces of heart or heart containers you want.
Eastern Palace Stalfos Spawning Room (5) Kill only 2 of the 4 Stalfos that are supposed to spawn, and exit the room to the North
Walk around the edge of the room until you're directly above the pot in the middle, from there walk directly downwards. If done correctly it should spawn only two Stalfos in total. The ones that would spawn above and below you are blocked from doing so by the wall and the pot in the middle of the room respectively. Kill the other two however you want.
If you do spawn more than two Stalfos after killing them you can head back to the room with the Big Chest in it, this will reset the room and allow you to try again.
Eastern Palace Big Key Skip (5) Pick up the Big Key in Eastern Palace, without killing all the enemies
Line yourself up so you're directly above the pot with anti-fairies circling around it. Then walk directly downwards into them, you'll get hurt, but while you have invincibility frames you should be able to pick up the pot and stand on top of the button underneath it, you'll get hurt again but it should cause the chest containing the Big Key to appear.
The two pots slightly farther down in the room contain some hearts in case you're having trouble and need a health refill.
Armos Knights go Boom(erang) (10) Defeat the Armos Knights in Eastern Palace with only the Boomerang [Equip Boomerang before boss room]
All currently living Armos Knights have to finish getting in formation before they all start moving around. If you position yourself carefully you should be able to keep at least one away from the position they're trying to get to with your boomerang. When they do finish their formation and start moving around, focus primarily on dodging, the bottom corners of the screen are both entirely safe while they're circling.
When only a single Armos Knight is left, maneuver around it so you end up below it, and you should just be able to keep throwing your boomerang until it dies at that point.
Spin Speed or Hook Speed (5) Achieve fast movement without Pegasus Boots Dashing [Only in the Overworld]
After picking up the Pegasus Boots, charge up a sword spin, release B and one frame later press the A button, you do not need to keep the A button held. If done correctly Link should be unable to swing his sword after he finishes his spin. Pressing A again at this point will disarm the spin speed state so don't do so. Touch some stairs or a ladder in the overworld, and you'll speed up massively after you're off them.
The initial state where you can no longer swing your sword will be referred to as spinspeed state farther in this guide.
After you acquire the Hookshot you can also activate the spinspeed state by having the Hookshot equipped and pressing Y and A at the same time. Unlike the other spinspeed setup this allows you to keep your sword held out if you were holding B when you did it, which can be relevant for some glitches.
Speeding Through Locked Doors (5) Perform a Key Dash on a Small Key Door
There's not really a specific time to do this achievement, you just need the Pegasus Boots, so just keep an eye out for opportunities for it. In a room with a locked door you'll want to press yourself up against a wall directly opposite the door while facing towards the door by holding out your sword, then start dashing. This should cause you to smoothly open the door and dash through it, earning you the achievement.
Death Mountain Ascent (5) Get from the bottom of the mountain, to the top, without using the cave [Only in Light World]
This is heavily based on the explanation available here. Note that only the standard method listed there will work for triggering the achievement. The new method and squirrelless setups will not grant the achievement.
If you want a more generalized explanation of the glitch, that's available here.
Warning: This glitch can softlock your game if done wrong, make absolutely sure to save and quit before attempting.
Starting from Sanctuary, head one screen transition left on the overworld, then position yourself in the way shown in the first image. From here you'll have to do eight frame perfect inputs in a row: While holding your sword out press Right and A at the same time, then release Right and A. After the eight time you successfully do this you should be in the position shown in the second image. If you're having trouble with the inputs, while its important you initially press both A and Right at the same time, you can release the direction first and it won't pop you out.
Once you're in the proper position, release B to cause Link to do a spin attack, then start holding down and right, if done properly this should cause Link to appear near the bottom of the screen, if not it'll just pop you out of the cliff and you can try again. Once you do get it properly, move Link into the cliff face as shown in the third image, then move to the right to cause a screen transition, which earns you the achievement.
Since you'll want to continue navigating Death Mountain you can fix the camera by moving up and down repeatedly, once the camera stays centered on Link you'll note it's still in a glitched state. There is a cave you can enter and then leave to fix the camera here:
Warning: Entering the cave without having scrolled the camera enough can cause the game to load very slowly, you might be able to fast forward through it, but in the most severe cases it'll lock up the game entirely forcing a reset.
You may recognize this cave as the one where you can rescue the Old Man, do not do so, getting the Mirror will lock you out of the next achievement you'll be getting. He is however conveniently present in his home a little to the right, since you'll probably need a heal from the boulders that hit you while you were realigning the camera.
How'd Ya Get Here? (5) Make your way into the Tower of Hera, without Hookshot or Mirror
Warning: This glitch can softlock your game if executed improperly, and you will not have the Death Mountain restart point available as you have not saved the Old Man yet.
Make your way to the location shown in the image, it's just to the right of the Old Man's home. Once you're here, activate the spinspeed state, have Link face downward, then hold down and right until Link stops moving, partially stuck in the cliff's edge. Typically Link will jump at this point but if he gets stuck, stop moving and tap right once, stop holding directions as Link is jumping. After Link lands, press Up once, this will cause him to pop out of the wall he's stuck in. Any other direction will get you stuck and force you to save and quit.
While the camera is still at the bottom of the mountain, you are now just outside of the Tower of Hera. The actual entrance to the tower is just to the left of tip of the ^ shape the lowest cliff makes.
After getting this achievement you can rescue the Old Man and pick up the Mirror, you'll want it for some achievements later. It'll also allow you to save and quit and keep your current progress, as it unlocks the Old Man's Cave as a starting location.
Goin' Out of Bounds (2) Use a 3rd floor pit in Tower of Hera to easily get Out of Bounds
After acquiring the Big Key, from the entrance of the Tower go up a single floor. Then proceed as normal, making sure the crystal switch is set to red. Once you get to the upper room of this floor, make your way to the right, you'll note there's a pit in the bottom right corner, walk along its bottom edge, then fall into its bottom right corner. Link will land on the floor below stuck in the wall, hold right and Link will jump and you'll get the achievement, and you'll have activated EG in a different way than before. If you want to get back inbounds, simply hold left and Link will jump back into the Tower of Hera.
If instead you want to explore a bit, you might want to consult the EG map here. So long as you picked up the Mirror you should always be able to go back to the Tower of Hera by using it if you get stuck.
Tower of Hera Bomb Jump (5) Use a Bomb Jump in Tower of Hera to get to the Big Chest [Hovering is Allowed, No Hookshot]
Make sure the star tile has been pressed so the pit is as close to the Big Chest as possible, like in the achievement badge. From here you'll want to be as close to the edge of the pit as possible while facing downwards, and then place a bomb and its explosion should send you flying over the pit.
A helpful trick for getting in position is having a spin attack ready to go, walk towards the pit so Link starts being pulled into the pit, release B and press down. Link will then perform a spin attack on the first possible pixel where he's no longer being pulled into the pit, which is the perfect position for this bomb jump.
An alternative setup instead involves placing the bomb while facing downward, and then dashing into one of the walls on your side after a short delay, so Link gets bonked into the explosion as it happens.

There's a Reason You're Called "Troll-dorm" | In Tower of Hera, jump down and get knocked back onto the platform again | 2
A Dashing Victory | Kill Moldorm in Tower of Hera only by dashing (No Y or B Buttons) and obtain Heart Container [Leave Room to try Again] | 5 |
Both of these are pretty similar, for the first one you'll want to jump off the ledge with your sword held out, then end up jumping into Moldorm's head. Because Link has his sword out when you do so, he should get bounced back to the platform you were on instead if you time it right. It can be a little annoying to get Moldorm into position for this, since he stops moving if he's too far off screen.
For the second achievement, Link can partially pass through Moldorm while dashing. Moldorm's movement pattern is a few seconds of random movement, followed by a few seconds of moving directly towards Link, keeping track of its current movement pattern can be very helpful. If you're having a hard time doing this with the starting sword you can come back here with the Tempered or Golden Sword, which will reduce the amount of successful dash hits you need to 3 or 2 respectively.
This Dam Chest (5) In the Dam, Open the Chest and Pull the Switch in the Same Visit
This achievement requires the Mirror or Hookshot, I will be describing the Mirror method here. Have the Mirror as your active item, and attempt to use it while one of the pushable blocks is moving. This should delete the block you just pushed. Using this create a path that allows you to both open the chest and pull the switch in the Dam in a single visit.
Fake Flippers (5) Go Swimming without Zora's Flippers [Only in the Light World Overworld]This can be done at any point where a ledge leading to the water is on an overworld screen transition, but the most useful place to do it is from the south edge of Lake Hylia, which is also required for the next achievement.
One screen transition left of the southeastern edge of the Lake, take note of the bush closest to the screen transition. Press yourself up against the cliff to the left of it so you're directly in line with the bush, walk up to this bush, slash it with your sword, and while Link is slashing hold B, up and right. This should cause Link to jump into the water, while the jump is happening release all buttons except right. This should trigger the Fake Flipper state. If you missed it and Link appears back on land, try holding just up until Link jumps and then right as he's jumping.
Warning: Getting hit while in the Fake Flipper state will cause a softlock.
Water Walking (5) Using the Fairy Fountain near Zora's Domain as setup, perform the Water Walking glitch [Only in Light World]
This glitch requires you to have the Moon Pearl to work.
This is a continuation from the previous achievement, make your way left to the whirlpool south of the Great Fairy's island. Enter the whirlpool, then swim straight up into the waterfall. You'll now be in the Fairy Fountain but swimming, exit again and if you have the Moon Pearl you'll trigger the specific Water Walking glitch this achievement asks for.
While you're in the area you'll want to pick up the Flippers if you can afford to.
Dark Death Mountain Descent [AKA Funny Autowalk Thing] (5) From Dark Death Mountain, Get to where the Sanctuary would be in Light World

Warning: If performed wrong this glitch can potentially cause a softlock.
After making your way to the spot in this image in the southwest of Dark Death Mountain, enter the spinspeed state, then hold down and left until Link jumps down the cliff. The moment Link jumps, stop holding directions, then when he lands start charging up a dash, press up while the dash is charging and it should cause Link to bonk upwards a little. From there press down once, and you'll start doing a funny autowalk thing and earn the achievement.
If you head right from here you'll end up at the Dark Graveyard, from which you can use the Mirror to get to King's Tomb and get the Cape, which you'll need for another achievement later.

No Gloves Needed | Have the Froggy Blacksmith Follow you, without having the Titan's Mitts | 10
The Out of Order Sword(er) | Obtain the Tempered Sword without pulling the Master Sword from its Pedestal | 5 |
This section is heavily based on deathFouton's OWG document which is available here.
Warning: Before starting this make sure you have at least as many bombs as you have hearts, you will be using them to take a death later.
Make your way to the southwest of the Village of Outcasts.
You'll once again be doing a Teleport, for a more generalized explanation of the glitch check here.
Similarly to what you did for the Death Mountain Ascent achievement, you'll be partially clipping into the cliff face to achieve a teleport, though the inputs are a little different because you're moving left. From the position shown in the first image you will then need to do a series of frame perfect inputs again. In this case five times A and Left, and one time A and Right; you can do these in any order so long as the total amount of inputs is the same. If done correctly Link should end up in the position in the second image. From there release your sword spin, and hold down and left at the same time, this should cause Link to teleport downwards into the cliff face.
From there keep jumping left. If you got a downward jump by accident after your teleport that's okay, just only jump left afterwards. Eventually you'll be out of the cliff face and be able to move up. Be careful to not cause the screen to transition to the left, you can cause a screen transition down safely, though you'll need to come back up to this cliff for the achievement.
There are more image references available here.
Move Link to the position shown in the above image. There needs to be a one pixel gap between his shadow and the brown dots, and the left and right side of the lowest part of his shadow needs to align exactly with the two dots. From that specific position dash towards the right. If done correctly Link should wrap across to the top of the screen, appearing to be northeast of the ruined hut, on top of the two pebbles next to some flowers.
From there walk a little down and then right across the bottom row of bushes until you run into a wall, from the wall move downwards one tile and then walk right again until you're at the bombable hut. From the bombable hut, walk downwards until you're in line with the lower line of bricks in the road, walk right until you hit a wall, then walk upwards until you hit a wall, and then walk right until you're on top of a column of three bushes. Now walk downwards until Link's head completely covers the lowest of these three bushes, but the second bush is entirely uncovered. Now use the Mirror, walk left a little bit from the spot you just mirrored from so the portal doesn't send you back any more, and use Bombs to blow yourself up so you can save and continue. Do be careful when moving left, if you go too far you can softlock yourself.
Warning: Do not save and quit at this point, this will cause you to lose your mirror portal.
Choose to continue from Link's House, and make your way to the Library. You'll note that your portal is right next to it. The screen wrap you did earlier caused the game to think you were lower than you actually were. Approach your portal from above, it'll take some finding the exact position but if you're standing a few pixels above the lowest bush you'll teleport into the skull without immediately getting teleported back, then turn right, cut the bushes and you can talk to the frog and take him with you.
Another glitch that can be used to do this is described here. I personally find that harder to perform, but give it a try if you're having trouble with the method in this guide.
You will want to make a quick detour to pick up the Flute and free the bird to enable fast travel and so you can perform a similar glitch without needing to take a death.
Fake Flute (5) Bring up the Flute Warp Menu, without actually playing the Flute
Purchase some blue potion. You can now bring up the fake flute by consuming your potion at the same time you take a screen transition in the overworld, other effects can be achieved with different types of potions. This is most easily lined up by bonking against something so Link gets knocked towards the edge of the screen, a convenient tree for this is available in the same screen as the witches hut.
If you want examples of effects other potions and different types of screen transitions can have check here.
But ... the Door Was Still Sealed! (10) Find a way into the Pyramid Faerie without blowing up the entrance
This is heavily based on deathFouton's guide available here.
Start from the Old Man's House, and proceed like you did before for How'd Ya Get Here?, however after pressing up to get nudged out of the Tower's walls, instead of going into the Tower move down and jump down a ledge. Then make your way down and right to the Dark World portal there, with your currently glitched camera it is in the brown cliff wall the bottom cliff's ^ is pointing at, if you end up jumping off another ledge you went too far down. After you've taken the portal and you're in the Dark World, keep jumping down and eventually Link's position and your camera should appear to be lined up again.
From there walk left until you walk past a ladder and there's a patch of differently colored dirt, position yourself like this:
If you're unsure about having the positioning right, note that it can still be made to work if your portal ends up slightly too low, while if it's too high it can become unusable. When in position use your Mirror, then use your Flute to travel to Link's House, which will also fix your overworld positioning. Make your way into Hyrule Castle's courtyard, press yourself up against the yellow bushes so you're below but directly in line with your portal, and if it's placed exactly right you should walk into the Pyramid Fairy Fountain if you walk up into it. If it instead sends you back, try walking up a pixel before letting it warp you again.
While you're here you should just pick up the Gold Sword and Silver Arrows, while you will not be using the arrows for Ganon they will make some other things you'll be doing easier.
Sneaking in to Agahnim's Tower (5) Enter Agahnim's Tower without destroying the Barrier that normally blocks the way
Get to the top of Hyrule Castle use the Cape and walk through the barrier.
Dinosaur Jump (5) Perform a bomb jump in Palace of Darkness in the Hardhat Beetle room [Hovering Allowed]
You will want to get back into the Dark World at this point, if you completed the previous achievement by using the Mirror from the Pyramid you should have a Mirror Portal nearby, but if not you could just go up and defeat Agahnim instead, you don't have an easy way into the northeastern section of the Dark World otherwise.
Proceed through the Palace of Darkness as you normally would (including picking up the Big Key), until you arrive at the room with all the Hardhat Beetles and a bouncer in the middle. Go along the left side of the room until you reach an arrow on the floor, get yourself as close to the pit above you as possible without falling in while facing downward, then move until Link's Sword just barely doesn't cover the leftmost column of pixels of the arrow, like in this image:
From there, just place a bomb, wait for it explode and send you flying upwards, and as Link is flying hold right to get onto the ledge and get the achievement.
Hammeryump (5) Obtain the Magic Hammer in Palace of Darkness without blowing up the wall next to the big chest
Head up through the door directly above you from the previous achievement, and you'll be in the right room for this. This entire setup is pretty time sensitive, though you can give yourself some more time by crossing the crumbling bridge first, heading to the room to the right and going down the stairs and back up to make it respawn. Since it only starts crumbling once the very bottom of the bridge is on screen, this will give you more time to get into position.
Warning: While you can also reset the bridge by using the locked door at the top left of the room, opening that door will make you miss the achievement.
For this particular bomb jump your horizontal position doesn't have to be very precise, but your vertical position matters a lot. For the horizontal position most anything on the left half of the bridge will work. For your vertical position, you'll want to look for the first segment where the floor tiles have two four pixel high vertical lines below the platform the big chest is on. With your sword held out, make sure it fits exactly over those lines when Link is standing still, then place a bomb. Now move upward with your sword still held out until your sword is directly above the line of four black pixels in the middle of the bomb sprite. See this image for reference:
As Link goes flying, hold up and you should be able to walk through the barrier around the big chest, and you can grab the hammer and your achievement. If you're having trouble getting your exact positions confirmed in time, remember that you can pause buffer as well, either by using the built into the game methods, or by having your emulator's pause bound to a convenient button.

What a Sequence Break | Obtain a Dungeon Item while still in a different dungeon | 5
Locked Doors are No Issue | Use a Key while in a Cave State, to effectively have infinite small keys | 5
This is the Dark World ... Right? | Find a way into the Fake Dark World | 5 |
Go to the cave underneath the blacksmith's shop in Kakariko Village, in here jump off the ledge and Save and Quit to arm EG. Now get back to cave, just be careful to not dash into the wall or take damage while you do so. Once you're in the cave, dash into one of the walls on the upper part of the cave (i.e the part right when you enter), this will cause Link to bonk and should cause him to disappear underneath the terrain.
If you are having issues with the setup, 6:15 in this video will show you a video of the setup and execution: https://youtu.be/5GXm63LRtUg
Warning: Avoid picking up small keys while in this state, that will cause your key count to overflow and go back to 0, preventing you from opening doors. You should also avoid killing bosses while in this state, while the heart container will drop you will be softlocked after picking it up.
As a reminder an EG map is available here, though you should be fine just following my directions.
Now you're in EG, move left until the screen transition, then take two screen transitions upwards. This should have taken you to the central room in Misery Mire, and you can jump off a ledge to get back in bounds here. After doing so open any locked door, grab the big chest, and walk out of the dungeon through its normal exit and you'll earn these three achievements. You'll also get the Cane of Somaria which you'll need for the next achievements.
Downgraded (5) While owning either Tempered or Golden Sword, pull the Master Sword from its Pedestal
Get the final pendant(s) you're missing, if you're still outside of Misery Mire from the previous achievement, you should be able to use your Mirror to get in there. You'll want to pick up the Power Glove while in Desert Palace for easier access to the Dark World, then head to Tower of Hera if you did not get A Dashing Victory earlier. After getting your final pendant, save and quit the game, then load your save and pull the Master Sword out of its pedestal to get this achievement. Afterwards reset the game and reload your save so you get your Gold Sword back, you still need it for an achievement later.
Fake Powder (5) Obtain Half Magic without the Magic Powder
You'll need the Mushroom, the Cane of Somaria and a completely empty magic bar before attempting this.
Move up to the Magic Bat's pedestal with the Cane of Somaria equipped, attempt to use it, and immediately after dismissing the message box that says you don't have enough magic, open the menu and switch to your mushroom. If done correctly this will cause Link to use magic powder and will trigger the magic bat.
Big Key in Skull Woods (5) Perform a Somaria Block Door Juke, to obtain the Big Key in an unintended room
Start by falling into the hole southwest of the regular entrance of Skull Woods that has the Big Chest in it. Then move one room right, this should put you in a room with one blue and one red bouncy beetle, a firebar, and a chest.
Make your way up to the north door, create a Somaria block, and throw it against the wall to your right, then while the block is in the air move slightly into the door. Pick up your Somaria block from inside the door and immediately throw it, then tap up, pick up your Somaria block, tap down and Link will be moved upwards, then throw your Somaria block while still facing downward. At this point only Link's lower half should be visible.
Tap up again, pick up your Somaria block, then tap down again and Link should no longer be visible. Now tap up, throw your Somaria block, and once it has completely settled its bottom should be visible in the doorway. Tap up again and your camera should scroll slightly upwards and a short visual glitch will happen, if at either of these points you instead screen transition upwards you held up for too long. Pick up and throw your Somaria block to get it out of your way, and go down to and open the chest which should get you the Big Key. Afterwards use your Mirror to reset the dungeon's state.
Note that if you did not get the Big Key you'll need to reset the game to try again.
Skull Woods Bomb Jump (5) Open the Big Chest in Skull Woods without pulling the switch that opens the wall [Hovering Allowed]
This is basically the same setup as it was in Tower of Hera, and all the same tricks apply here. As a reminder you can either use a saved up spin to help position yourself as close to the edge as possible, or get yourself bonked into the explosion to create a little more leeway. I'd recommend learning the spin setup because it will be helpful for the Ice Palace Bomb Jump later.
Poke the Big Moth (5) Defeat Mothula using only the Golden Sword
Note that Mothula is immune to normal swings or spins of the Gold Sword, the only way to damage it is by holding out your sword and poking. It takes 4 pokes to kill it, and of course usual problems of knocking it into spikes cancelling out damage still apply.
Also tempting as it may be to use your Cape, using any of your items will invalidate this achievement. Your B button should be the only button you use during this fight.
While you're in the area you should head down to Thieves Town and pick up the Titan's Mitts, you'll need them to get into Ice Palace.
Two For One (5) Kill both Stalfos Knights with a single bomb in Ice Palace [Room before Conveyor]
This is in the room you fall into after the first floor hole you bomb open.
Get rid of the pot above you and cause the upper Stalfos Knight to become active, just ignore it though. Instead lift up a pot in the lower part of the room and trigger the lower Stalfos Knight, throw your pot at it or just hit it with your sword from below so that it gets knocked upwards into the central part of the room, then place a bomb just below where it collapsed. When the bomb blows up it should take out both of them, even though only one of them has collapsed.
Ice Palace Bomb Jump [IPBJ] (10) With the orange blocks up, perform a bomb jump after the conveyor room to cross the gap behind the Orange Blocks
This is two rooms after the previous achievement.
Line yourself up against the north wall, face right then use the spin attack setup to get as close to the edge of the pit as possible without Link being pulled into it. Pull out your sword again, place a bomb, then move downward until there's a one pixel gap between Link's sword and the bomb. The achievement badge has the correct setup pictured. If done correctly the bomb should knock you diagonally across the pit and earn you the achievement.
Break the Ice (10) Defeat Koldstare using only 4 Fire Rod Uses, no Bombos
To do this you will need to hit Koldstare's ice block with another projectile shortly after you hit it with the Fire Rod. Sword beams, arrows and exploding Somaria blocks all work, though the timing for each of these differs.
For sword beams you'll want to swing your sword shortly after the fire rod impacts. With arrows you'll want to stand near the bottom of the screen, shoot your bow and then immediately switch to your fire rod and use it. With the Cane of Somaria, place a Block fairly close to Koldstare's ice block, then detonate it after the fire rod impacts.
I personally find the Cane of Somaria method easiest to perform, but experiment with what setup you like best. The methods that don't use sword beams also have the advantage of it not mattering if you get hit.
Example gifs and more detailed explanations can be found here.
Silver Arrows Can't Save You Now! (10) Defeat Gannon without using any Arrows
You'll need to get to the Ganon fight while in-bounds to get this achievement, the easiest way to do so is beating Ganon's Tower. While I won't be covering it in this guide a setup for getting in there without getting all the crystals can be found here. You'll also need to pick up the Hookshot to beat Ganon's Tower (without hovering anyway).
Fight Ganon as you normally would for the first few phases, when his second dialogue box plays (which is after he's started making the edges of the room collapse), bait the first fire bat he shoots to be away from the torch, then as he starts teleporting you'll want to be ready to light the left torch. If you can light it before the right torch goes out it'll glitch out and prevent the right torch from ever going out, making the fight easier. It's easier to do this with the Lamp as you can use it repeatedly until you relight the torch, though that does drain more of your magic bar.
For doing damage to Ganon you'll want to charge a spin attack, dodge the fire bat he shoots out, then release your spin attack right as he starts to teleport across the room. If done correctly you'll hear him take damage, he won't turn blue and freeze in place, and Link will be knocked away from him. If he does turn blue you're using your spin attack too early, while if you don't hit him you're using it too late.
If you got the torch glitch and are using the Lamp to relight the torch you'll be able to get at most 2 hits in before the torch goes out, if you're using the Fire Rod you can get 3 hits in if you position yourself well. After landing 12 successful hits Ganon will die and you'll get your achievement.
