2) Introduction

Hime's Quest is an Zeldalike Action RPG made by Poppy Works developed for the anime video streaming service Crunchyroll. It is themed around Crunchyroll's virtual YouTuber, Crunchyroll-Hime. A mysterious dark force has trashed Hime's anime club's setup and caused strange changes to her world, and it's up to you to find who's responsible and put a stop to them.

3) Roadmap

Step 1: Progression and Missables

Your main objective is to locate the items needed to access four dungeons and clear said dungeons.

It's worth noting that each of the first three dungeons each have their own missable achievements for clearing them in as few screen transitions as possible. You may save at the entrances of the dungeons, but if you have any progression (keys, locks, etc.) after you save, you will miss your achievements.

You must clear the Desert Dungeon,

the Swamp Dungeon,

the Hills Dungeon,

and finally, the Dream Casino.

Step 2: Optional Achievements

These achievements may be unlocked at any point after you obtain the necessary items. It is recommended to do these alongside the progression achievements.

Chest achievements, unlocked by retrieving items from all chests in an area.

Shop achievements, unlocked by purchasing certain items from the shops. You will need 670 yenny to obtain all of the achievement relevant items.

Other Item achievements, unlocked by obtaining items by any other means.

Completion achievements, unlocked by completions of certain long-term goals.

And finally, miscellaneous achievements, which do not follow any of the above guidelines.

Step 3: Curse Mode

Upon beating the game with the cursed amulet in hand, Curse Mode will unlock. In Curse Mode, all kitsune statues and health upgrades are removed, making health much more valuable and forcing you to beat the game in one sitting. Dying will force you to go back to the start. Finally, once you enter the Dream Casino, an NPC blocks your way out, forcing you to clear the entire boss rush on 4 health.

4) Walkthrough

Step 1: Progression and Missables | Total points: 70

Do Hairclips Count? (1)
Obtain the Sword from a mysterious stranger from another land
Go east from the library until you come across the forest. Progress through the forest until you find a person calling for help. This is Alma, and they will give you a sword.

It'sss Mine to Keep! (5)
Defeat the desert thief Kleptopatra and obtain the Legendary Game Disk
You'll find the Desert Dungeon one screen down from the end of the forest. In the area with Steve, push the cyclops stone and the water will drain, revealing the entrance to the Desert Dungeon. You need to find two keys that will allow you to access the two animal statues near the boss gate. You'll find these keys by going through the enemy gauntlets on both sides of the dungeon. Once you have the keys, you can go up to the locked gates. While the right gate has enemies behind it, the left gate has a puzzle involving three cyclops stones. Push the two outer cyclops stones in and the other either left or right. Once you're up on the balcony, you will need to rotate the animal statues so that they face each other. Once that is done, the boss gate will open up.

Kleptopatra is the boss of this stage. If she stands in the middle, she'll do her waterspout attack. Get out of the way and you should dodge it. Be sure not to stand to her left or right because she could move there. If she moves to the left or the right, she will do her water gun attack. Stand on the edge of the screen and you should be fine. Hit her with your sword enough and she should go down and surrender the Legendary Game Disk.

An Arid Route (10)
In one session, and without leaving, clear the Desert Dungeon in 17 screen transitions or less (Cursed or Normal, Reloads OK, No prior progress)
The ideal route for this dungeon is right, right, up, key, down, left, left, left, left, left, key, right, up right, up (unlock), right, rotate falcon, ledge drop, right, up (unlock), left, rotate snake, ledge drop, up.

Freshly Plundered Swag! (3)
Obtained the Winged Boots from an elderly retro gaming collector
If you go to the lower right corner of the map, you'll end up in Beach Town. Go to the straw hut in this area and you'll find an old man looking for a legendary game disk. Give him yours and he will trade you some winged boots. Additionally, buy the fishing rod from the general store while you're here. It will be important later.

Eww... No Thank You (5)
Defeat the sporeling commander Nofungus and obtain the Bishum Mushroom

After getting the boots, you can then access the swamp. When you get to the lower left corner of the map, you'll find the Swamp Dungeon.

The Swamp Dungeon's main gimmick is the pipes you have to go through. The directions they take you can be changed by hitting nearby switches with your sword. The skeletons and bats here can be annoying to deal with, so it's better to run away from them if you can help it. The sporelings only shoot diagonally, so they're pretty easy to defeat and get health from if you can get close. There are mandatory keys on all three of the forks, so progression is rather linear. Be sure to hit the switches that activate the boss gate on your way (Down the second fork in the area with the bats and in the area after the portal) and once you've looped around the area the boss gate should open.

Nofungus is rather easy. Stay in the left corner, dodge his spread shots, kill the sporelings that spawn from the left pipe or wander too close to you, and hit him whenever they try to punch. Keep in mind that Nofungus can't spread shot and spawn sporelings at the same time, so you're free to stand in front of the left pipe to dodge his spread shot. Defeating Nofungus will reward you with the Bishum Mushroom.

A Marshy Route (10)
In one session, and without leaving, clear the Swamp Dungeon in 25 screen transitions or less (Cursed or Normal, Reloads OK, No prior progress)
Ideal route is up, first pipe, second pipe, chest, second pipe, switch, second pipe, up (unlock), up, left, pipe, switch, pipe, pipe, chest, pipe, right, right, switch, pipe, up, pipe, chest, pipe, down, pipe, switch, pipe, right (unlock), switch, up, switch, down, left, pipe, switch, pipe, up, pipe, up (unlock), right, key, left, left, left, down (unlock), pipe, switch, pipe, switch, pipe, down, ledge drop, pipe, right, up.

Salty Delivery! (3)
Obtained the Bicep Card from a mushroom powered witch

Go to the house with the purple roof next to the border between the desert and the swamp and you'll find Salty the Witch, who will exchange a Bicep Card for your freshly-obtained mushroom.

A Cheeky Trade! (3)
Obtain the Skeleton Key from a cat loving cosmic horror enthusiast

With the Bicep Card in hand, you can now access the northern part of the map. You want to reach Willem Fumble's Pig Farm Lifestyle Resort. I tend to go there by going north from Beach Town to reach the hills, going west until I get to the mountains, and looking for green grass on a downward screen transition. Once you're there, go west to the Wellbeing Barn and there you'll find a cat named Tenmaru. Interact with him and you'll pick him up as an item. Now go back to town, look for the Japanese-looking castle (Junji Ito's house) and head to the northmost room. Then you'll meet popular manga artist Junji Ito, who wants Tenmaru. Hand him over to receive the Skeleton Key needed to enter the Hills Dungeon.

Politely Accepted (5)
Defeat the benevolent ruler Underlord and obtain the Dream Casino Key
In the northeast corner of the map lies the Hills Dungeon. Head around the dungeon collecting the four keys you need to unlock the stone puzzle at the end. The solution to the stone puzzle at the end is laid out by signs strewn throughout the dungeon, and it is up down right left. This will cause the boss gate to open.

The Underlord has a rather annoying attack where he unpredictably moves to the middle and starts spinning his sword around the arena.

A Craggy Route (10)
In one session, and without leaving, clear the Hills Dungeon in 36 screen transitions or less (Cursed or Normal, Reloads OK, No prior progress)
Ideal route is right, chest, left, left, left, down, key, up, up right, stairs, right, stairs, right, up right, chest, up left, down left, ledge drop, chest, down, left, left, up right, stairs, right, stairs, right, up left, up, stairs, down, up left, stairs, down, chest, up, stairs, down, stone puzzle, up

Unwavering Otaku (5)
Obtain the Anime Club Membership Card from a dedicated anime fan
If you were to enter the Dream Casino now, the Porter would stop you because you're not a big enough anime fan. First, if you haven't already, trade in the fishing rod to the fisherman at the desert entrance to the hills and he will give you a yellowtail. With the yellowtail, go to the Animal Village in the mountains (the upper-left corner of the map) and look for the Big Cheese's house. Talk to the Big Cheese and he will offer you a TV for a yellowtail. Turn it in and head back to New Crunchy City. Now go to your house, enter the room on the left, and pet the cat. This will give you an anime DVD if it took you this long to pet the cat. Now head back to the library and talk to the guy next to the TV to claim your membership card.

THIS IS FOR ANIME! (10)
Save the world, technology, and anime by defeating the Y2K Bug!
Now that you like anime, it's time to go beat up a piece of computer history. The Dream Casino can be found to the right of Salty's place up the staircase. When you enter, you will need to show the Porter your membership card. Then, he will let you enter the casino proper. There, you must fight all previous bosses to unblock the way to the final boss. You can refill health between fights, so it shouldn't be too hard.

Archery Accouterments (3)

Chiptune Devotee (5)

After getting the Office Key (see Putrid Prizes) go to NCC and enter the house right outside of the forest. The guy at the entrance will give you the CD player for the achievement.

Hopelessly Hexed (5)

In the area of the Hills Dungeon with the stone puzzle, input the Konami Code (Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right) to acquire the cursed amulet.

Chibi Cartographer (5)
Explored the entire map and revealed all map tiles
You should get this achievement naturally as you explore the map. Once you've filled out every space of the map, you'll have the achievement.

Ace of Hearts (5)
Obtained all hearts and max out Hime's Health
You can find eight of the ten health upgrades throughout the game's chests. There's also one health upgrade in both Eunice & Co. and the Animal Village Cafe and Store for 40 yenny each.

In the Neko Time (5)
Successfully pet Yuzu 5 times without getting scratched
Go to your house, go to the left, and interact with the cat. When the prompt comes up to pet him, select yes. This will take you to a minigame where your hand must avoid tuna can lids(?) to pet Yuzu on the right side of the screen. The lids are fast enough that you can't really "dodge" them, so you just have to get lucky.

Kowai!!! (2)
Find a surprise in a horror author's eerie abode
Go to Junji Ito's house, go to the room on the left, and try to use the light switch repeatedly. Once you get the jumpscare, the achievement should pop.

Debt Collector (3)
Defeat Gorgo and receive your overdue rent!
Go to your house, go through the doorway under the stairs, and go through the staircase on the right to access a hidden mini dungeon. Do the simple block puzzles and beat the enemies and you'll eventually come across Gorgo. Gorgo's pretty easy, just deflect his speech bubbles back at him with your sword. Upon beating him, you'll get 120 yenny for your troubles.

Step 3: Curse Mode | Total points: 55

The Curse of the Badlands (5)
Clear the Desert Dungeon on Cursed Mode

The first thing I do is activate the city train station. After that, I go to the gamer house, get the money, and buy the packed lunch to trade in for the bow. Then, I go to the shrine to get the bow and bolt for the Desert Dungeon. I only fight enemies if they either are in my way or I'm missing health. I don't bother with skeletons.
In the Desert Dungeon, the only real threat is the right key room because there's a mandatory skeleton, but it's cost me a couple of runs. I go collect the 20 yenny chest guarded by slimes and do the dungeon as normal.

The Quagmire Curse (10)
Clear the Swamp Dungeon on Cursed Mode

My Swamp Dungeon setup is pretty normal, buy the fishing rod, talk to the Porter, trade in the disk, go to the swamp, talk to the Porter again, go to the dungeon. I collect the 20 yenny chest down from the Desert Dungeon so I'll have money for something later.
The bats and skeletons in the Swamp Dungeon were still pretty tricky for me, but there's still plenty of sporelings to grind for health.
Believe it or not, Nofungus has actually cost me a couple of runs. Probably just because I forgot how to fight them properly. They should not be an issue.

The Curse of the Foothills (10)
Clear the Hills Dungeon on Cursed Mode

I tend to just do one big errand run in New Crunchy City. Talk to Salty, go to Beach Town, go north, trade with the fisherman, talk to the Porter in the hills, go to the mountains, find Tenmaru, trade with the Big Cheese, go to the mountains train station, go to New Crunchy, go home and pet the cat, go to the library and get the card, go to Junji Ito's house and get the skeleton key.

The Millenial Curse (25)
Clear the Dream Casino on Cursed Mode
With the Hills Dungeon complete, I refill any health I lost with the demons in the final key area. I then leave the dungeon and book it for the train station. I head off for Beach Town to refill my arrows, and then it's off to the swamp train station for my final challenge.
The Dream Casino is easily the most dangerous part of the run. Four bosses in a row, at least one of which has to be done no damage, is obviously a huge threat. I go for Underlord first because he's the hardest, then Kleptopatra, then Nofungus.

The Landlord's Curse (5)
Clear Gorgo's Basement on Cursed Mode
oh and this guy's here too for some reason
Gorgo is no different in Curse Mode than he is in Normal Mode. Just fight him one run and forget about him. You won't need his money anyway.
