1) Story
You are a new detective working for the Japanese police, on your first day you are given a code-name by your boss and told to spread the tale of your legend throughout Japan. You do so by completing an investigation into a criminal once a week, in order to gather clues once a day you play mahjong with various rule sets against coworkers, informants, and even lab techs. Once you have enough clues to narrow down the suspect list from six to one, or if you reach day 7 of the week, you accuse the culprit. If it is the correct guy and you are able to stop them from placing first in a game of mahjong, you take them to jail and your legend spreads to the area surrounding the city where the crime was committed.

[1]: Yakitori is a rule where anyone who hasn't scored a hand in the entire game must pay the players who had extra points
[2]: Wareme marks a player every hand decided by dice roll who will be able to earn double the points from winning that round. They will also lose twice as many points if someone else tsumo's or they get called ron on. This will be shown with a small red oval with ワレメ written in it in front of the player.
[5]: Options are 東風 (East only), 東南 (East into South), or 東北 (East into North). If no one has won by the end of the last round, then East games will move onto South, and South/North games will move into West. If no one still has beaten the threshold needed for a win, then the game will end.
[4]: Ippatsu is an additional yaku worth 1 han for winning within a turn of calling riichi, this is interrupted if someone makes a call between you calling riichi and winning.
[5]: Since they are incredibly close in points to mangan, this rule rounds up 3 han 60 fu and 4 han 30 fu hands to mangan for simplicity of scoring.
[6]: Agari yame is if you are in the last hand of the game and the dealer wins and is in first, the game will end instead of repeating the hand.
[7]: Rare yaku, only counts if you have this on your first draw, consists of 13 tiles that has no groups, no pairs(except one), and no tiles closer than three apart from another. For example 26m148s269p11257z. Yakuman.
[8]: Rare yaku, consists of either 3 or 4 triplets in the same suit that are each one number apart. For example the hand 222333444m234s33z. Three is worth 2 han and 4 is a yakuman.
[9]: Rare yaku, consists of the hand 22334455667788 in one suit. Yakuman.

4: Playing Mahjong
Once a game of mahjong starts, there are several ways to "pause". Pressing start brings up a miniature options menu with the following options
- Background music On/Off
- Sound effects On/Off
- Dialogue On/Off
- Auto Discard On/Off
Pressing select will ask if you want to return to the main menu. Press A to quit the game and B to return to the mahjong table.
Pressing either of the shoulder buttons will bring up several menus depending on what mode you are playing, continue pressing the shoulder buttons to cycle through them and press A or B to return to the table.
- List of players
- Current Scores
- Rule set
- Story mode conditions
- Survival mode leader board
If you want to make a call, press down on the d-pad and select the call you want to make. You will only be allowed to make calls possible so don't worry about chombo. If a player discards a tile you can call, the game will pause until either you make a call, or press A while outside the call menu to continue the game.
ツモ | Tsumo |
ロン | Ron |
リーチ | Riichi |
ポン | Pon |
チー | Chii |
カン | Kan |
5: Story Mode
The story mode is focused on a weekly cycle where a crime is committed, and you have to find clues to identify the suspect. In order to succeed on a day of investigation, you don't have to win the game, you just have to satisfy at least one condition the game give to you before the start of the match. You can check these conditions again by pressing the shoulder buttons while playing the match. Once a condition is satisfied you will see a red stamp on the condition.
Day 1 you play a very short game against the police woman trio before you are introduced to the 6 suspects. If you win this game, the conditions to win the rest of the games in the week will be slightly easier.
From day 2 onward you will be put into the story day menu below
You have 5 options on days 2-6:
- The ear: This will put you into the day's investigation game and you'll return to this menu on the next day when it is done. If you complete a condition in the game, you will be given a clue to the culprit.
- The star: This is where you can accuse a culprit if you are ready to end the week.
- The black notebook: This is where you can see the current clues you have collected, if you press L while here you will see the list of suspects and their information. If you can rule a suspect out click A on them to add a big red X on their face that you will be able to see while in the star menu.
- The white notebook: This is a collection of your scores for the week. If you press L you can get more statistics on your save file.
- The rolled up map: This bring you to the map where you can see what cities you've solved a mystery in, what city you are currently solving a crime in, your legendary status, and your health bar.
On day 7 the ear option will be gone and you'll have to accuse the culprit to continue. You will need at least three clues to be able to identify the culprit for sure. If you manage to beat the entire game and solve a crime in every city possible, the only options for you to look at will be the white notebook and map.
Below are the conditions and rule sets for each day, the standard rule set will be an East game, starting with 26,000 points with a buy in of 30,000 points, and bankruptcy off.
Day | Rule set | Condition |
---|---|---|
1 | Bankrupt, 2000/3000 points | Be first place |
2 | Standard | Two random easy conditions |
3 | Wareme | Don't be fourth place |
4 | All red fives | Two random medium conditions |
5 | Yakitori 10, Wareme, 25000/35000, 3 dora active, +10+5-5-10 Uma | Be first or second place |
6 | South game | Two random hard conditions |
Culprit | South game | Don't let the culprit be first place |
Shooter (Special event) | South game | Make the shooter be fourth place |
If you manage to catch the culprit and make sure they don't win the mahjong game, then the city you are in will be marked as complete and the surrounding area will become green and contribute to your legendary status.
The radius it will turn green will depend on your total score over the week, which is the sum of the positive scores you received in each game (negative results don't penalize you) and a bonus of 100 points if you accuse the culprit on day 5 or earlier, 50 points if you accused on day 6, and 0 points if you accused on day 7.
The effect of a higher score isn't very great unless you do amazing, so make sure to focus on completing the conditions before focusing too much on a high score.
If you fail to catch the culprit you will lose a heart off of your health bar and a new week and case will start. If you lose a case and you health bar is at 0 hearts, then a city you have previously completed will be erased.
To earn back hearts you will have to succeed in a special event. The only type I've seen is a shooter event which takes place after you've solved a case, before another one starts. The the current visiting detective will be threatened with a gun, and if you fail to have the shooter take last place in a game the visiting detective will die and be replaced with a new detective. (If you win they decide to take a vacation or something and get replaced anyway.) If you succeed at saving them you will regain 2 hearts. Having a new detective show up will unlock them for use in free play mode.
6: Survival Mode
There isn't much to say about survival mode. It is a gauntlet of 100 games in a row with various rule sets. Your life meter is the sum of all of the final scores you've received in the games. If that falls below zero, you lose and must start again from the start of game one. If you ever place fourth in a game, your current score/health will be halved. The score sheet for survival is below
対局順位 | Placement in the last game |
現在の累計 | Your current score/health |
現在連戦記録 | The number of games you currently have finished |
現在連続1位 | The number of times you currently have placed first in a row |
最高連戦記録 | Your record of games you have finished |
最高連続1位 | Your record of placing first in a row |
最高累計記錄 | Your record score/health |
