2) Introduction

Final Fantasy Origins is a compilation/remaster for the PlayStation of Final Fantasy [1987] and Final Fantasy II [1988] (Both FC/NES games). It released on 2002 in Japan, and 2003 in the Americas and Europe.

This remaster features improved graphics, an enhanced soundtrack and many QoL changes. It's like playing Final Fantasy I and II if they had the quality of VI.

Some of the glitches that occured in the original FC/NES versions of these games are still present in this version, and I'll go through some of them later on.

There's 2 difficulty settings in both versions, but I think they're pretty dumb;

In FF1: Easy mode makes shops cheaper, XP is gained faster and stats grow more rapidly. There's no changes on enemy or boss stats, so playing on Normal just guarantees that you're gonna have to grind for longer. (yes, that's what's considered "difficult" here, which should actually just be "tedious") The only reason you should play Normal over Easy is that some images on the photo gallery are only available after completing the game on Normal, but those images are not tied to achievements, so they aren't necessary.

In FF2: You don't unlock Normal mode until you have finished a run on Easy mode... OK? that's weird. Normal mode just outright removes QoL that was added in this remaster. You can't sprint, attacks don't get retargeted if an enemy has died, and any non-offensive items can only be used on the character that uses them. This is the dumbest difficulty setting I've seen in my life. Removing QoL doesn't make the game harder, it just makes the game more boring and bothersome.

So, just choose Easy on both games. (It's not like you can choose anything else in FF2...)

Final Fantasy I does NOT have any missable achievements, the only place where you should be careful is towards the end. If you enter the final dungeon, and you don't have the spells Exit or Warp in any of your characters, you're not gonna be able to leave the dungeon, and you're stuck in there until you defeat the final boss and the credits roll. Creating Clear Save Data will restart the game from the beginning, so be careful which save slot you overwrite.

So, as long as you don't mess up with the final dungeon and the clear save data, you should only need 1 playthrough of FF1 to get everything.

Final Fantasy II, on the other hand, contains 10 missable achievements. Most of them are tied to one-time dungeons or enemies that only spawn during specific windows of the story. There is also a missable achievement related to learning a specific keyword, which can only be obtained within a narrow timeframe between story events.

Don't worry, if you follow this guide, you shouldn't miss anything! :)
