(WIP) Arc the Lad III ‐ All Job Endings Guide - RetroAchievements/guides GitHub Wiki

Some general tips:

  • Save often! All Inns have a save journal that you can use before starting a job. If saving during a job, consider using a separate slot to be safe.
  • All jobs are numbered, the easiest way to not miss an optional job on disc one is to do them in numerical order. The only exception to this will be job 39 which won't be available until job 40 is started and must be completed before entering the Battleship. On disc two, it is fine to accept story based jobs and the game will at times force it. In this case, the easiest way to not miss optional jobs will be to not start doing the story based job until all guilds are clear of optional jobs. The achievement ordering will cover doing this to help ensure nothing is missed, but where it is known this guide will note which jobs become missable upon story progression.
  • Once you accept a job, the job must be brought to the appropriate complete, fail, or incomplete status to earn the applicable achievements. Reloading saves is fine.
  • If you get a prompt when taking a job that it must be given your full attention or started immediately, that means any in progress jobs will be abandoned. Refrain from taking this until all in progress jobs are completed. These will typically be jobs that are required progression, but a few optional jobs will also give this prompt. To avoid this potentially happening, taking new jobs only when the previous was completed is the safest route. It is also possible to say no, finish jobs and then go back to that one.
  • The game will clearly state when you will be unable to return to your current location. Other than going to South Sularto, all new locations are points of no return on disc 1. Make sure everything is done before leaving any location.
  • Easiest way to lose a battle is to send your lowest HP character to fight alone and do not attack.
  • This guide is meant more to give a general rundown of how to get the endings because especially the fail and incomplete endings are not covered in any other guides. For more detailed step by step on how to complete jobs, especially anything involving a dungeon, it is advised to consult a walkthrough or map. Both of the walkthroughs on GameFAQs will get you through any troublesome spots. Maps will be especially helpful during jobs 69, 72 and the final dungeon that have the most complex dungeons in the game.
  • There will be instances of a small delay between the game displaying the status of the job and the achievement unlocking. Normally this is just until a scene transition, but the achievements unlock when the memory updates indicating job completion which will be once all scenes for the job are viewed. This guide will note any that have a cutscene between the completion dialog showing and the achievement trigger since there are some with a decent length scene before the job is truly complete according to the game.
Test Complete! [5]
Complete Job 1 - Hunter Registration Test.

Progression - Cannot be failed. Just go to the Trial Cave, make you way through it and defeat Tengaron at the end. You can leave the cave at any time if you need to return to town to get better gear and battles can be refought.

Protected the Stuff [3]
Complete Job 2 - Protect Medicinal Plants.

Successfully complete Job 2 by catching all three mice within 5 attempts. Note: To get Three Blind Mice, the mice must all be caught within three attempts.

One Blind Alec [1]
Fail to complete Job 2 - Protect Medicinal Plants.

Fail to successfully complete Job 2 by not catching all three mice. Two, one, or zero mice caught all have the same result. The easiest route would be to pay attention to where the mice are and then purposely go to the wrong box.

Special Delivery! [5]
Complete Job 3 - Supplies for Hunter Jay.

This is a rare optional job that has no way of failing it. Jay will patiently wait as long as needed for the items to be brought to him. How nice of him!

All Boxed In [3]
Complete Job 4 - Nasty Creatures in the House.

Successfully push all the boxes over each of the holes so the mice can't get in. If this can be done without needing to reset that will also net "Perfect Pusher"

Hard to Push [1]
Fail to complete Job 4 - Nasty Creatures in the House.

Once the minigame starts, bring up the menu and choose to give up.

An Influx of Shoppers [3]
Complete Job 37 - Make the Shop Prosper.

Send the following characters to speak with each potential shopper:

  • Spicy: Lutz
  • Upset woman: Cheryl
  • Hunter: Theo
  • Lavender: Alec

This will also net "Efficient Barker"

Drove Them AWay [2]
Fail to complete Job 37 - Make the Shop Prosper.

Have any characters but the ones mentioned above sent to speak with the potential shoppers.

Sharp Eyed Alec [3]
Complete Job 38 - Catch the Bazaar Shoplifter!

Complete all stages of the minigame without picking the wrong person.

Mixed Them Up [2]
Fail to complete Job 38 - Catch the Bazaar Shoplifter!

Pick out one of the brothers instead of the shoplifter.

After this job is done, job 39 is available. Start the job but before completing there's another job to do first:

Riot Quelled [5]
Complete Job 40 - Stop the Riot.

Accept this job in the Gislem Hunter's Guild. Go to the Secret Path, watch the scene and then win the battle.

That Hurt a Lot [3]
Fail to complete Job 40 - Stop the Riot.

Same as above, but lose the battle instead.

Back Home Where It Belongs [10]
Complete Job 39 - Bring Back the Water Sphere!

Progression - cannot be failed. Go to Gislem to hear about the Battleship and then head there to find the sphere. Job will be completed upon returning to Testa after defeating Chaos Arms.

New Bonds [5]
Complete Job 41 - Friends for Danny.

Win the battle to protect the kids from the bandits.

A Slap in the Face [3]
Finish Job 41 - Friends for Danny with moderate success.

Lose the battle to protect the kids from the bandits.

A Future of Discipline [10]
Complete Job 46 - All Hunters, Find Tikva!

Progression, can't be failed. This one isn't hard but can be a bit time consuming. The game pretty much will steer you as needed towards where to investigate until your objective is met. At the end there will be a boss battle to win.

A Monitored Future [5]
Complete Job 47 - Finger the Page Pilferer!

To successfully complete this job two things are required:

  1. The thief must be successfully found.
  2. The alibis of the suspects must be examined.

It is unknown if the order of how you arrange the alibis has any bearing on this, but the order of Yonan, Gants, and Culpioni does work. The thief is Yonan.

Lessons Learned [3]
Fail to complete Job 47 - Finger the Page Pilferer!

There are two ways to do this and they do have variations.

The more interesting variant:

  1. Speak with the suspects
  2. When it comes time to examine alibis, say that you know who did it
  3. Select the wrong person. Gants is a good choice, but anyone besides Yonan will work.

The less interesting variant:

  1. Speak with the suspects
  2. When it comes time to examine alibis, say you give up. When the librarian asks if you are joking say you are dead serious.
The Start of Something Big [5]
Complete Job 48 - Drive Lakeshore Bandits Away!

As usual, beat the Rainbow Bridge Gang in battle. As usual, they have gained no levels but their leader now has an assistant who is level 40 and likely higher level than the party. Be wary and take out the gang members first and then focus on the assistant.

Beaten By Seven Fruits [3]
Fail to complete Job 48 - Drive Lakeshore Bandits Away!

Lose the battle. Because of the overleveled assistant this time, this could happen without even trying to make it happen.

A Wild Goose Chase [5]
Complete Job 49 - Find the Pet Dog.

Win all three battles of the very wild goose chase for the dog. No failure one here because the ending is just a shorter version of this.

The Eccentric Test [5]
Complete Job 50 - Retrieve the Scroll of Truth.

How you answer the questions does not matter. All that matters is two things:

  1. You obtain all the treasure
  2. The battle is completed successfully by defeating all monsters

If one of these is missed, the job will end pretty much the same.

To ensure this doesn't happen, make sure to go after the treasures first. Do not engage with the monsters. If you run into trouble because of counter attacks, equip weapons and bring a party that won't counter. Give Alec a spear and/or replace Lutz or Marsia with Theo. Cheryl's guns don't counter and neither do spears, but rods, swords and knives can counter and accidentally defeat the monsters. Keeping Marsia instead of Lutz is likely the better choice since she is likely still underleveled, counters less often, and is generally a weak physical attacker.

Hunting for Information [10]
Complete Job 51 - Collect Historical Information.

This one is very picky and has many requirements for a successful completion.

First, you definitely need to successfully interview Salubari and Harzen. To do this, you must win both of the battles. On top of the interviews you must speak with everyone you can. Make sure to speak with the Monks Harzen was training, the students in Ruhsaht, head up to the library's second floor and speak with as many NPCs as you can in Paysus.

A Shining Legend [5]
Complete Job 52 - Investigate the Spooky Sounds!

To successfully complete this job the following needs to happen:

  1. Have Cheryl read the books on all 6 locations. Talking to Wyat here is optional, but highly recommended for some funny dialog.
  2. Next you must say you know what it is. For the next choice, select "Hemo-ji" If the wrong choice is selected, the game will say so with some funny dialog and let you try again.
  3. This one is vital because if the wrong selection is made and confirmed by Alec, the job will be failed. Next pick the location which will be Mt. Amaidar Peak. If the right one is picked, have Alec confirm that sounds good. If the wrong one is selected make sure Alec does not confirm so you can go back and pick the right one.
  4. Party will head to the area and find some Hemo-jis. Win the battle and this one is done.

It would be recommended to have a few Power Jellies on hand to heal anyone turned into a Hemo-ji.

A Decision is Made [5]
Complete Job 53 - Help Sania Break the Cycle.

The most important thing here is to force Yan to actually make a decision, so your own decisions are what determines the outcome here. The first choice does not matter because the result will be the same no matter what. The only choices that matter are after the monsters show up.

  1. Stay Silent
  2. You're on your own

After that there will be a battle. The outcome of the battle does not matter.

Crippled By Decision Paralysis [3]
Fail to complete Job 53 - Help Sania Break the Cycle.

Make any decisions besides staying silent and telling Yan he's on his own. Winning or losing the battle doesn't matter.

The Not So Powerful Sparkles [5]
Complete Job 54 - Traveling Duo's Great Discovery.

Maybe someday the party will learn their lesson about this family but this job sure isn't it. As usual, win the battle despite the huge handicap. Thankfully these monsters are below the party's levels.

A Sparkling Defeat [3]
Finish Job 54 - Traveling Duo's Great Discovery with moderate success.

Lose the battle and watch the funny scene.

Misdirected into the Future [5]
Complete Job 55 - Trainee Mon's Romance Trouble.

This is probably the most annoying job in the whole game solely because of how awful the Monk Misdirection minigame can be since it combines stealth with an escort quest and the guy being escorted is one of the dumbest ever. This cannot be stressed enough: SAVE BEFORE STARTING THIS JOB!!!

So first step, is to lead Kurt down the mountain without being seen. This will require a combination of speaking with him to tell him what direction to move in and speaking with the monks patrolling to distract them. The easiest way is to direct Kurt first to the far left, then down, and then right. Alec standing in front of the Monk is enough to block him from view as well.

Once that is done, there will be a battle with Alba and his group. Win this to complete the job successfully.

A Lack of Misdirection [3]
Fail to complete Job 55 - Trainee Monk's Romance Trouble.

If this doesn't come naturally, just don't bother to misdirect the monks until the job fails.

A New Town and a New Worry [5]
Complete Job 56 - Archmonk Iga's Special Delivery.

Progression and cannot be failed. Get the letter from Iga first, then hop on the boat. Head to Paltos first to figure out where to find Leshalt and then head to the Mountain Retreat and finish the job.

Note: The achievement will unlock a decent amount after the game says the job is complete. This is because the game itself doesn't change the memory indicating successful completion until after the scene with Velhart.

Alec the Codebreaker [5]
Complete Job 57 - Decode the Mysterious Memo.

To complete this job successfully there are two things that need to be done:

  1. Figure out the correct location
  2. Win the battle

The codes are generally acronyms of the words in the memo. If you mess up, there are three chances in total. First one is at Tolarika Ruins, second is in Parute Desert, last is in Dartanelle Beach. The scenes all play out the same, so it doesn't matter if you get it wrong at first.

All Coded Out [3]
Fail to complete Job 57 - Decode the Mysterious Memo.

This can happen in one of two ways:

  1. Get the location right, but lose the battle.
  2. Get the location wrong three times.
A Generous Donation [5]
Complete Job 58 - Stop Illegal Monster Card Buying.

Find the rich guy at the inn first. You'll automatically be sent to Tolarika Ruins. Win both battles and this job is a success.

No failure achievement since the incomplete is just a shorter version and the fail abruptly ends the job.

An Unpredictable Monster [5]
Complete Job 59 - Monster Extermination at Tolarka.

This job is simple, just win the two battles and the job is a success.

No failure achievement since the ending is about the same with a small variance of Alba gloating if you fail.

Alec the Commander [5]
Complete Job 60 - Command a Monster Hunter Team!

This one can be a bit tricky since there are two major things to get right. First you have to assign the correct hunters to the correct areas. The easiest is Parute Desert, then Tolarka Ruins and then Dartanelle Beach. Take each hunter at face value in how they describe their skills. What can sound like boasting is going to be actual skill and you want those people at the beach. There are six hunters to assign, two to each area. Going from left to right you want to assign the hunters to the following locations: Beach, Desert, Ruins, Desert, Beach, Ruins.

If all is done right, you'll arrive to each location finding that the hunters had no issue with the monsters. But you won't get off that easy, the intel was no good and once the newbie hunters leave the Desert some powerful monsters will arrive for you to clean up. Defeat them and the job is completed.

A Bratty Meeting [5]
Complete Job 61 - Help with the Tournament Prep!

Very easy progression job. Gruga's home is in the SW corner of Paltos, go there and watch some scenes. A battle will happen, win and you're done.

Gengal's Back! [5]
Complete Job 62 - Help Hunter Back from Darkside.

Win all the battles and the completion is yours.

Double the Loss [3]
Fail to complete Job 62 - Help Hunter Back from Darkside.

Lose either of the first two battles before you face Gengal. Both have the same outcome either way.

Survived the Monster Gauntlet [5]
Complete Job 63 - Scout the Site of a New Inn!

This should be familiar enough after multiple requests from this family, but yet again the party will fall for it and all will take the tonic. Win all three battles and you'll complete this.

Too Many Monsters [3]
Fail to complete Job 63 -Scout the Site of a New Inn!

Lose any of the battles and the party will fail. The ending is the same no matter which battle is lost.

The Aura of Success [10]
Complete Job 64 - Safeguard the Tournament Prize.

This job is progression and cannot be failed. Win the battles, then navigate the dungeon and defeat the boss.

Note: After this you must accept job 69, that's fine because you can accept other jobs while it's in progress. Make sure to talk to the receptionist again to get access to jobs 65-68. Obtaining the hovercraft is a point of no return and the end of disc one. Make sure to complete these remaining jobs in Parute and hunt the wanted monsters before you obtain the hovercraft.

A Safe Rainbow Free Beach [5]
Complete Job 65 - Make Dartanelle Beach Safe Again.

Yep, the bandits are back and yes they have gained no levels since your last encounter. Only the leader will be any threat but this will be much easier than the last time. Win the battle and the job is complete.

One Saucy Win [3]
Fail to complete Job 65 - Make Dartanelle Beach Safe Again.

Lose the battle, which may actually take some effort since the bandits at this point can be killed in a single attack even by your weak physical characters. To speed it up, feel free to attack the bandits and leave the leader so there is less time wasted on attacks that won't do much when only the leader is any threat.

Caught the Kitty [3]
Complete Job 66 - Crisis at the Rochefort Manor.

The only crisis here is a spoiled child. Catch Anrietta's cat three times and the job is complete. If you have trouble catching the cat make sure to direct it towards a corner so it can't run. No fail since the ending is about the same either way.

The Strength of Bravery [5]
Complete Job 67 - Gruga's Surveillance Request.

This is easier to complete than job 65. Only 3 bandits and two of them are even lower levels. Win the battle and the job is successfully completed.

A Lesson Learned [3]
Fail to complete Job 67 - Gruga's Surveillance Request.

Just lose the battle instead to get this ending.

Caught By Love [5]
Complete Job 68 - Catch Mamaman's Depression.

This job has a few steps for a completion. First Catch has to be given a good idea. To ensure you get Catch Them All listen to Cheryl's idea last. After that you have to interview people to make possible pairs. Pick Zenden and Pamela. Then pick any pair among your own party and win the battle.

One Sad Catch [3]
Fail to complete Job 68 - Catch Mamaman's Depression.

To fail all you have to do is pick anyone but Pamela and Zenden when coming up with the pair for the battle.

Note: The point of no return for Parute is partially into the next job. To be safe regarding missables make sure to complete all jobs before entering Cariote Cave.

Fun fact: Jobs 70, 72 and 75 also became available when job 69 was started but until you get the hovercraft, you have no way to get to the guilds they are in (they are in Paysus, Testa, and Renn respectively). Once the hovercraft is obtained they can be done before completing job 69 if you wish or you can complete 69 first and then go and explore. Once the hovercraft is obtained there also will be a new set of wanted monsters in each guild.

A New Disaster [10]
Complete Job 69 - Search Academy HQ.

This is a progression job and cannot be failed. It is also the longest progression job in the game and covers three dungeons. First, head west from Paltos to access Cariote Cave. Navigate through the cave to the end to get the hovercraft. This will be the end of disc one and the point of no return for Parute. Next you will arrive in Ragnark. After a scene you can freely explore the world if you wish but to finish this job head to Felator. Explore the base here until you get to a door where you overhear a conversation between Sharon and Seville, Keep in mind, you have to successfully evade the guards and intruder detection devices or you will be escorted to the entrance. Getting to the end without being detected will net you Sneaky White Cat. After some eavesdropping, head north. You'll have to fight two battles on the way and then will arrive at Academy HQ. Here you get a choice of taking the stairs or navigating a maze of elevators. If you want all treasure, both routes will need to be traveled. Get to the top, defeat the boss and then watch the scenes. After that, return to Paltos and go to the guild's back room and speak with the people there to complete the job.

After this jobs will be available in multiple areas so each job will also indicate which town's guild to go to to get the job. Any instances where doing an earlier job can render a later job missable will be accounted for with ordering.

A Changed Temple [5]
Complete Job 70 - Changes at Amaidar Temple.

Accept this job at the Paysus Guild. Head to Amidar Temple and speak with Iga first. Then speak with the monks twice. Iga then gives a choice, what you pick doesn't matter but saying "I'm sorry" leads to a slightly more interesting result. Then choose two people to lecture the monks. Alec's is recommended for the humor value, but it doesn't matter which is picked. Then you will fight the monks with Velhart alone. Win all six battles and the job will be complete.

Note: This will not unlock until after the scene with Tikva at the gate because that is when the game acknowledges the completion in the memory.

Spoiled by Love [5]
Complete Job 71 - Rochefort Family Crisis.

Accept this job at the Paltos Guild. Win the battle and this completion is yours. As long as Alec stays alive he can carry the battle alone so don't worry about keeping Anrietta out of KO status, though if you can and she can defeat one or both enemies she will gain a ton of levels which will help in a later job.

Note: This must be completed before job 76.

A Heartbroken Anrietta [3]
Fail to complete Job 71 - Rochefort Family Crisis.

Fail to win the battle and this is yours. Anrietta will go down in one hit, so that isn't hard. Otherwise just don't have Alec act and he'll go down eventually as well. The lower his starting HP is, the quicker this will go.

Hunting for Hunters [10]
Complete Job 72 - Explore the Treasure Dungeon!

Accept this job in Testa's Hunter's Guild. It cannot be stressed enough how complex this dungeon is! There is a great map on GameFAQs and the guides have good info as well. This dungeon is full of passages that repeat forever, twisty warps that take you to the wrong places if you don't press the right panel and is generally long and complex and it is very unlikely you will successfully complete this without a guide or map. To successfully complete this job, all the hunters need to be found. There are 4 sets of hunters in total, with the last one being right before the final treasure room. Make sure after meeting her to grab the treasure and then go back. The last two sets won't count until the final hunter is reunited with the injured pair. If you leave before finding all the hunters the job will be failed if none are found or incomplete if you only find some but not all. There is a save and heal room in the middle, feel free to use it because a single session isn't required. All treasure isn't required during the job because this dungeon can be revisited but with how long this dungeon is, it's highly recommended to get all treasure as well since it's all not too far out of the way from the hunters.

This job is rather forgiving on when it becomes no longer available, so feel free to save it for later. It definitely is still there after finishing Elbow Cape and accepting job 81. Job 98 being accepted is likely when it stops being available.

Making an Accurate Future Network [5]
Complete Job 73 - Guild Staff: The Next Generation

Accept this job in the Paltos Guild. To complete this job, Alec needs to successfully guide the trainees into relaying the two messages' overall meaning. Any errors with the messages will lead to an incomplete and pointing out errors on correct words three times with the same trainee will lead to a failure when the trainee leaves. Most of the errors are pretty obvious and it's just a matter of pressing X before they go to the next message. If this is done without causing the trainees to lose trust you'll also earn A Trustworthy Trainer.

Note: This job must be done before completing job 76

Helping an Old Friend [5]
Complete Job 74 - Protect the Material Shipment.

Accept this job in the Itio Guild and then go to Ragnark to do it. To successfully complete this job you need to not only win three battles, but you also need to make sure that none of the monsters sneak past to the area Shu points out. Even one monster getting past you will fail the job. To make this harder, for two battles you'll have less party members than usual.

For the first battle, have Cheryl or Marsia join you. Cheryl's normal attack can hit multiple targets and Marsia's Gaia Magic is a godsend here if she's well leveled. Alec should use Force Ring to attack as many monsters as possible. If they get confused as well, all the better because they will not try and sneak past while confused and may even attack other monsters for you. Velhart should use Omega Breaker and try to get at least two monsters if possible.

The second battle is the hardest since it's just Alec and Velhart. Again, have Alec use Force Ring and hope any monsters that aren't defeated get confused. If a monster is confused, do not have Velhart attack it. If Velhart fails to defeat the monster, this will remove confuse and they may just make a run for it. Have Velhart target non-confused monsters with Omega Breaker if you can get two or more monsters. If not then any ability or a normal attack will suffice.

The last battle is easier since you get a full party and Shu even joins up. Use whoever has the best AoE attacks. Alec should continue to use Force Ring and otherwise the others should try and target as many as possible. A well leveled Marsia is a good pick for this since her Gaia Magic will have a good range to target multiple monsters. Keep your party together, the monsters will often try to attack them and this will get more of them into the range of Force Ring and Marsia's magic.

Note: If Marsia is not well leveled at this point, start bringing her along for jobs and wanted monster hunting since she will be required for a story job coming up soon and if she's lacking in levels then grinding will be needed to proceed with the story.

Way of the Earth [5]
Complete Job 78 - Raia's Dream.

This job must be done before completing job 76 or it will be missed!!!! Accept the job in the Paltos Guild and head to the reception area of the arena to start. First complete a practice run of the dance part that will be done. Don't worry about how you do here or memorizing the button prompts because they will change in the actual performance.

To successfully complete this job Raia's group must score 35 or above. Three of the judges will always give 10s no matter how badly you do, but the fourth judge will take off one point per error made so there is a max of 5 errors allowed before the job is failed. The timing can be a bit tricky to get down but in general you want to press the button below the vocals while that word is being sung. There does not appear to be a penalty for pressing buttons early, just for missing prompts. The game will show when it was correct.

Note: This achievement will not unlock until the scene with Anrietta's birthday party is completed, which will have one more performance of the song that just has to be watched.

A Successful Interview [10]
Complete Job 76 - Interview Magic Master Gogen

This job is part of the story and can't be missed. Make sure before completing it to do all jobs in Paltos first. Accept this job at the Paysus Guild. Head to the Spell Institute for a funny scene involving an old acquaintance. You'll then be advised that Gogen can be found at Elbow Cape. With this, a new location opens up in Jiharta on the eastern side. Traverse through the dungeon and its puzzles to find Gogen. After a scene where with his information Alec comes up with an idea, the interview is complete. Compared to the dungeons in jobs 69 and 72, this one is quite easy.

To complete the job, head back to the Paltos Guild to report the results to the Guildmaster. After this you will be forced to accept job 81 which will cause jobs 71, 73, and 78 to be missed. If any of these are still incomplete, do not head into the back room until they are.

Honorable Hunters Win the Day [5]
Complete Job 77 - Where Is the Heinous Hunter?

Accept this job at the Gislem Guild. Go to Sabi Wilds and listen to Melissa's story and then win the battle against the hunters. Their levels are high so this could be tricky but should be doable for a party who has been keeping up with jobs and wanted monsters. After that you will head to the Ruined City for another scene and battle. Win this to complete the job.
