🐧 How to use Linux with Escape The Backrooms

This is a guide to how to use Linux with Escape The Backrooms due to there being no official support. This will be using a modified version of Steam Proton so it is advised you have some knowledge with Steam Proton.

💻 Downloads

To get started there a few things you need to download to get this to work

  1. Your favorite Linux distribution (I'm using Fedora Linux 38)
  2. Download Steam from your software store or from their website
  3. Install Escape The Backrooms on Steam
  4. Install ProtonUp-Qt from their Github page

📋 Installation

  1. Run the ProtonUp-QT
  2. Click on Add version
  3. Install a version like GE-Proton8-13 or the latest one
  4. Restart Steam (You might need to restart your computer)
  5. In Steam click on Escape The Backrooms and then on the settings icon
  6. Click on Compatibility and select Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool
  7. Click on the drop down and click on GE-Proton8-13 or the one you downloaded
  8. Load it in game and enjoy

🍷 Why GE-Proton?

I used the normal Steam Proton in the past and found many issues with it like crashing mid game and when I started using GE-Proton, these issues were fixed. Also for modding you need to use this due to DLL issues with the normal Steam Proton.
