Overview
Facilities produce resources. They can be built on an empty lot on any deed owned by the player. When a facility is active it produces resources in batches. Each facility produces different resources. Some facilities also require an input batch of resources to produce an output batch.
Only facilities on the active deed can be active. You can toggle a facility between active and inactive at any time. If a facility is in the process of producing a batch of resources when the factory is set to inactive, the production is halted. When the facility is reactivated the production begins at the same point that it was halted at.
Statistics
Each facility has three statistics (speed, capacity, and quality) that can be improved through upgrades.
Speed
The speed of a facility is proportional to how fast each batch is produced. The faster the speed of a facility, the faster each batch is produced.
Capacity
The capacity of a facility is proportional to the size of the input and output batches. The higher the capacity, the larger both the input and the output batches will be.
Quality
The quality of a facility is proportional to the amount and chance that extra resources will be produced in each output batch.
Upgrading
Each facility can be upgraded to improve the statistics of the facility or in some cases completely change the type of facility when reaching keystones in the facility's upgrade tree.
Upgrade Tree
Each facility has a corresponding upgrade tree. The upgrade tree contains many upgrade nodes connected via branches indicating prerequisite nodes that are required to be upgraded in a certain order. There may be many paths that can be taken in a facilities upgrade tree which will ultimately shape how the facility functions.
Upgrade Node
Each node has prerequisites before it can be bought, and then a cost to actually purchase the upgrade. Most nodes require previous nodes in the tree to be purchased as a prerequisite, but may also require certain technologies to have been researched first.
Keystones
Keystones are special upgrade nodes that appear at the end of some upgrade trees (as leaves of the tree). Keystones fundamentally change how the factory functions, normally by changing the facility into a completely different type of facility.
Some special keystones allow for the merging of facilities into Super Facilities when multiple facilities of the correct type and upgrades are built next to each other.
Demolishing
A facility can be demolished at any time. There is no refund for demolishing a facility. If the facility was in the process of producing resources, the entire input batch is lost and none of the output batch is recovered.
Proximity Bonus
When more than one of the same type of facility are built next to each other they acquire a proximity bonus. The bonus increases all statistics of the facilities, proportional to the number of neighbours the facility's neighbour with the least neighbours has (called the weakest link). Therefore the maximum weakest link is six for a facility that is built in the middle of a deed with all plots on the deed having the same facility.
All possible weakest link values are: 0 - 6.

Labs
Labs produce resources specifically for purchasing technology nodes. Labs therefore usually have a very low chance of successfully producing the output batch. Most of the time the output batch fails and nothing is produced even though the input batch was consumed.
