Discrete Matrix is a turn-based game between pairs of two players. Each turn, each player can select action A or B. A rewards grid indicates the reward that each player will receive for each of the 4 possible combinations of actions. Players do not see their opponent's selection until both players have submitted their selection.

The game is divided into a number of rounds over a number of periods. Pairs can be configured per period so that different subjects are paired up each period. Once all periods are complete, the finish page is displayed which contains a table summarizing the overall rewards for that player.
