Armor Basics (WIP) - RedDeadlyCreeper/ArmoredCombatExtended GitHub Wiki
In ACE, the armor is a feature which serves as basic protection against bullets and damage in general. If you are here that means you want to properly armor your stuff. So here i will teach you how to armor your props
Before armoring... know your tool
The tool which we will use to add armor will be the "ACE Armor Properties" tool. This is the main tool for armoring which you can find by pressing Q and looking at the top of the category "Construction", inside of the toolbar. There, a panel will be shown to your right side. Which will have the following:
Thickness
This value defines the thickness of your armor, measured in mm. Increasing this value will increase the thickness of the armor (note that doesn't do visually) and its protection against projectiles.
Ductility
Increasing this value will improve prop's health, allowing it to resist more damage, but also increases its weight. The value varies in a range between -80 to 80, being 0 the the neutral point.
Material
Defines which will be the material property for this prop (not to be confused with the 'physical properties tool'), which can offer different KE/CHEMICAL protection performance than default one (RHA). Material stats in the display below are measured as a scale to RHA performance. You can get a detailed list of materials here.
Armor bias of the configuration above...
Any of these values will adjust the weight of your prop, so just keep in mind this bias:
-
The thicker the armor, the heavier your prop will be.
-
More ductile props have the same effect. Note that putting duct < 0 will make the prop brittle, with more chances to break but less weight.
-
The more volume your prop has, the more mass will be required per armor thickness, 50 ton in a big block will have less armor than 50 ton in a little box, however, big props will have more hp than small ones.
Applying armor
Now that you know these simple tips, you are ready to armor props.
-
Left click
to set the armor values to the prop which you are looking at. Any armor data from the chosen prop will be overwritten by your new settings. -
Right click
to copy the prop's current armor data which you are pointing at. Any armor data you have configured in your panel will be overwritten by the props armor values. Useful to get info about the protection of an already edited prop.
Did you see how easy it was?
Okay, but i don't remember how much mass i've added to my vehicle. Is it possible to see that?
Yes, you can do a quick inspection of your vehicle stats by simply pressing R
in one part of your contraption. Your results will be shown in a text like this:
There, you can see the total mass, mass ratio (depending on how much mass is either parented or physical), material composition, etc
Be sure that your creation/contraption is directly or indirectly connected together to get a realiable result.
