  • Systems of Survival by Jane Jacob. This was left in response to my question about “what type of system would allow difficult things like efforts twoards ‘doing good’ to not be destroyed by problematic systems?”
  • “Not sure there's a 'system' type, although there's a great dialogue about such systems of governance (a way of doing things right), in Jane Jacob's excellent book 'Systems of Survival'. It explores systems of guardianship and enterprise and how these interact - well worth a look.”

A lot of these are probably super expensive. See if you can use any tools to access for free.

  • The Encyclopedia of Diversity and Social Justice (Rowman & Littlefield, 2014) - This two-volume reference work covers key topics, theories, and concepts related to diversity and social justice movements across different cultures and societies. The Encyclopedia of Diversity and Social Justice provides a very broad overview across many cultures, identities and societal issues.

  • The Oxford Encyclopedia of Gender and LGBTQ+ Studies (Oxford University Press) - While focused on gender and LGBTQ+ issues specifically, this resource covers many social justice angles relevant to those communities. The Oxford Gender/LGBTQ+ Encyclopedia zeros in specifically on those communities' experiences and advocacy.

  • The Encyclopedia of Human Rights (Oxford University Press) - Addresses a wide range of human rights issues through a social justice lens across history and cultures. The Human Rights Encyclopedia looks at justice issues primarily through a legal/policy lens.

  • The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy - This free online resource has in-depth entries on many philosophical concepts and theories underlying social justice like egalitarianism, feminism, critical race theory, etc. Stanford's resources take more of a philosophical and theoretical angle.

  • Wikipedia and Other Online Resources - While not encyclopedias per se, Wikipedia and educational websites like The Lever Institute contain a wealth of information compiled on social justice subjects.

  • Ecological Limits of Development, by Kaitlin Kish and Stephen Quilley. This is a book applying systems thinking to the SDG’s. There were multiple chapters that did not follow systems thinking. If someone else wants to go through it and see if there’s anything worth adding here, feel free to. If you want to, I advise going to the appendix and searching for specific goals or topics of interest. taylorfrancis.com/books/oa-edit/10.4324/9781003087526/ecological-limits-development-kaitlin-kish-stephen-quilley
