Composting toilets are great if you don’t have access to a bathroom or sewage system. For small, urine diverting composting toilets, urine usually needs to be disposed of three days a week. You can do this in a public restroom or RV Dump Station. Manure that has been composted for two weeks without adding new material can go in the trash after being safely packaged. Check local regulations to confirm how to best dispose.

Composting Toilets
-
Unlike flush toilets, composting toilets are a chore to maintain. Think of it in the same way you would talking out the trash or doing laundry.
-
If you are using the manure for compost instead of disposing it, the proper way to do so safely without risking disease is to have a 3 bin composting system, and compost manure for a minimum of 1 year. Do research to understand how the weather and climate in your area may impact the composting process.
-
Urine can be turned into a cleaning solution, “lant”, or fertilizer as a commercial nitrogen fertilizer. Do research on proper processing methods. Do not use urine from people that take pharmaceutical medication.
Buffers
- Mother dirt: no shower product. Could this be helpful in areas with poor access to water?
