Measured & Observed Data

Introduction

Measured & Observed Data comprises time- and event-sensitive datasets derived from remote sensing and metering/monitoring activities. In ReLIFE, these datasets serve as an empirical evidence layer: they are used to validate and enrich baseline reference data, support the detection of renovation-related elements, and fill information gaps where purely compiled datasets are insufficient. Compared to baseline datasets, measured and observed data typically offers higher spatial detail and/or temporal variability, but may be limited to specific regions, periods, or case studies.

Sections

Estonia EPC assessment (remote sensing + registry linkage)

This dataset links residential building footprints with thermal statistics and EPC-based performance classes. Thermal indicators are based on winter/summer land surface temperature (LST) derived from Landsat 8–9 and SDGSAT imagery. EPC ratings are sourced from the Estonian Building Registry (e-ehitis) and aggregated into two groups (High: A–D vs. Low: E–H) to support robust comparisons. The dataset is provided as a GeoPackage and is accompanied by a ZIP archive containing cropped orthophotos derived from the Estonian Land Board (Maa-amet) geoportal.

Estonia PV detection (aerial imagery training data)

This dataset supports photovoltaic (PV) detection on residential rooftops. It contains 320×320 GeoTIFF image tiles derived from orthophotos provided via the Estonian Land Board (Maa-amet) geoportal. The dataset is accompanied by a GeoPackage containing identified PV panel geometries, enabling spatial reference and model training/validation workflows.

Ferrara thermal analysis (high-resolution aerial thermal imagery)

This dataset combines building descriptors (e.g., age and use, where available) with features derived from high-resolution aerial thermal imagery provided through the Municipality of Ferrara (Comune di Ferrara Open Data). It is provided as a GeoPackage and supports localized analyses of thermal patterns at building level.
