Polished Crystal contains regional forms (RFs). The RF implementation became the basis for the Pokédex expansion code-wise.

The main database contains the full list of regional forms available in this game. (Major spoilers there!) Note that the signature moves and Abilities don't necessarily come along due to technical limitations.

Red Gyarados is now a new form of Gyarados rather than the Shiny variant. This leads to the lack of Shiny animations or icons for that; "Shiny Red Gyarados" is possible, who is also red.
