Import and Export

Export downloads dashboard-backup.json containing every link, including links hidden by filters or the tile limit, and settings, groups, icons and ordering. It includes inactive wallpaper values, embedded local images, Picsum seed/date and providerOrder.

Destination and duplicate filename suffixes follow browser settings. A dashboard filename/folder picker remains in Backlog.

Import replaces links and merges supplied settings. Structure is validated before writing; invalid backups and cancelled pickers leave data intact. Storage limits apply. Export destination data before importing replacement data.

Older backups remain supported. Six-provider orders map Duck.ai to DuckDuckGo and remove ChatGPT/Claude provider entries without removing shortcut tiles. Supported provider order is retained, duplicates are dropped and missing providers use defaults.

Keep backups private when they contain personal URLs or embedded images. Use export/import between profiles, machines, file locations and served origins. Copying index.html alone does not transfer saved data.

Hand-edited numeric settings represented as strings may be rejected. Dashboard-generated backups remain compatible; numeric-string policy is a follow-up.

Recent activity and its clearing cutoff are deliberately excluded from backups. Importing an older backup cannot restore cleared activity or undo Clear. Copying files or using export/import does not transfer recent activity between profiles or machines.
