Purpose of the User Guide:

The purpose of this user guide “How to withdraw cash from an ATM” is to explain the procedure of how to withdraw cash from an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM), in a step-by-step manner.

Introduction:

An ATM is a computerized, teller machine from which you can execute a banking transaction, like cash withdrawal or deposit, without the need for direct interaction of the bank’s staff. An ATM cum debit card is an offering from the bank linked to your bank account, which helps you to perform various transactions such as cash withdrawal, shopping, online fund transfer, and many more. ATM is connected to the bank’s computers, and each transaction on ATM is verified and authenticated. Whether you withdraw money from your, or deposit it through ATM, your ATM pin and account are verified and authenticated with the bank’s computers before the transaction cycle is completed. All transactions through ATMs are recorded on the bank’s computer.

Different parts of an ATM machine:

  • Display Screen shows transaction details.

  • Cash Dispenser dispenses the cash through the slot.

  • Use Keypad to enter the required information on the screen as part of the transaction process.

  • Speaker provides auditory support when the ATM machine wants you to enter the required information.

  • Card Reader captures the account information on the magnetic strip at the back of the ATM/DEBIT card for verification and authentication.

Prerequisites:

  • A valid bank account with an ATM card and pin issued and activated for that account.
  • Account holders should maintain sufficient balance in their account to avail the cash from ATM.

Steps to withdraw the money from an ATM:

  1. Insert/Swipe the card based on the types of ATMs.
    Note: Few ATMs take the card and return it after a few seconds and some ATMs return the card after the transaction is over.
  2. Language options appear on the display screen. Select a comfortable language from the options.
  3. Type ATM PIN (Personal Identifications Number) on the keypad. The PIN is a 4-digit Personal Identification Number provided to you from the bank.
    Notes: Do not expose your keypad to an overhead camera or anybody as you type PIN on the keypad. Cover the keypad with the other hand. Do not type the wrong PIN. If you enter the wrong PIN, 3 consecutive times, your ATM card will be blocked.
  4. Select the Withdrawal option from different transaction options on the screen.
  5. Select the Savings Account in the type of account from Account options.
  6. Type the withdrawal amount on the keypad.
  7. Press Enter tab on the keypad. The machine dispenses cash through the dispenser slot.
  8. Collect the cash from the cash dispenser slot.
  9. (Optional) Select the Yes option to get a printed receipt of the transaction from the Receipt Printer slot.
    Note: Some ATMs provide a few options after the transaction is complete. Make sure that you complete those actions based on your requirement or select cancel to ignore them. You should wait until the green light blink and the ATM is ready to take the next card. Make sure you carry the debit card and money with you.
