Replacing Arc - RTHKKona/MHGU-Modding GitHub Wiki

This tutorial is for the basic .arc editing and replacements that you'll be doing if you plan on modding MHGU.

Here are the programs you will need:

  • An emulator/modded Switch with MHGU version 1.4
  • Kuriimu2 for lightmode / SaladSoftware for darkmode
  • A hex editor, preferably 010 Editor since you can use templates but any hex editor works.
  • Around 5 minutes (based on the complexity of hex editing)
  1. Open up your emulator and right click MHGU and click on extract romFS. If you're on a modded Switch get nxdumptool to extract the romFS from the base MHGU 1.4 NSP.
  2. Open Kuriimu2 or SaladSoftware and extract any .arc file nested within romfs.
  3. Do your edits and adjustments here.
  4. Afterwards, if you used Kuriimu2 all you need to do is re-open your .arc and click replace for your files. If you used SaladSoftware, you can use 3.Build New Arc or Batch: Repack Folder to create a new .arc for you.
  5. Place your .arc in a nested folder within a structure like so: /romfs/nativeNX/...etc...
  6. Install this mod into your emulator/Switch.
