In the investigation execution phase, all actions necessary for a specific type of investigation are performed on the material. The investigation execution phase has two sub-processes:

• Specimen collection
• Data collection

Since these processes follow the specifications and fulfill the objectives specified in the study design, this phase is also referred to as study design execution.
