FrNonMetricTraits comprises the following 14 cranial and mandibular non-metric traits. For some of these traits, different characteristics might be present (in brackets). To distinguish these characteristics of the same non-metric trait, integers are used to denote the characteristic which is observed. See data collection for further information.

Cranial non-metric traits

  • Biasterionic suture
  • Frontal foramen
  • Inca bone (complete, partite, partial)
  • Infraorbital foramen (partite)
  • Infraorbital suture
  • Lambdoid ossicle
  • Metopic suture
  • Ossicle at bregma (located centrically, protruding into the frontal or parietal bones)
  • Ossicle at lambda (protruding into the occipital or parietal bones, triangular shape)
  • Parietal foramen
  • Partitioned temporal squama
  • Supraorbital foramen

Mandibular non-metric traits

  • Enamel pearl
  • Mental foramen (absent, multiple)

The translation of the Latin terminology from the Freiburg data entry form is mainly according to the terminology from Hauser & DeStefano 1989, partially from Saunders & Rainey 2008.
