Assembly instructions
This page gives short context for building RC2014 kits. Full steps, photos, and jumper tables stay on rc2014.co.uk assembly guides and on each module page.
What you assemble
RC2014 hardware is sold mainly as kits:
- Solder modules (through-hole parts).
- Fit modules to a backplane.
- Set jumpers for ROM size, RAM map, serial type, and clock options.
- Connect a serial terminal and power.
Official guides cover complete machines (for example Classic II, Mini II, Micro, Zed / Pro tips) and many individual modules. User-written guides (for example Pro assembly tips, Zed getting started) also appear on the assembly-guides page.

Intro to soldering (short)
- Use a fine tip and good light. Through-hole RC2014 boards suit beginners.
- Heat the pad and lead together, then apply solder. Avoid dry joints and bridges.
- Check orientation of ICs, electrolytic capacitors, and diodes against silkscreen.
- Clean flux if it causes noise or sticky contacts.
- Do a visual check before power: wrong socketed chips and bridged pins cause most first-power failures.
If you are new to soldering, practice on scrap stripboard, then follow the kit guide for that product.
How to use the official guides
