5.1 JUSTIFICATION FOR SCORE

DESIGN N0. OBJECTIVE SCORE ALLOCATED JUSTIFICATION FOR SCORE
1 Safety 10 Same as datum because the cutter is secured in a casing.
Ease of use 9 Much easier to swap the empty pulley with wire loaded pulley.
Portability 6 Have to carry pulley and machine separately. Moving datum is much easier.
Use of standard parts 5 The mechanism used in Concept 1 i.e Triangular eccentric is a complex mechanism. Parts required would have to specially made.
Cost 3 Same cost.
2 Safety 10 The wire cutter is exposed to the user which might cause some damage.
Ease of use 9 Can be used to cut multiple wire at the same time without user interaction.
Portability 6 Due to improper protection for electronics, The portability of this concept is very low.
Use of standard parts 5 The mechanism used in this concept is very simple. Therefore, the parts used are easily available.
Cost 3 Use of LED screen and a moving wire mover will result in heavy machinery, which have high costs.
3 Safety 10 Datum
Ease of use 9 Datum
Portability 6 Datum
Use of standard parts 5 Datum
Cost 3 Datum
4 Safety 10 It has casing to protect the electronics and guard with a guide LED to protect the user from any harm.
Ease of use 9 Same as datum.
Portability 6 Its modular design complemented by a handle allows it to be used in many environments. Therefore, it a portable device.
Use of standard parts 5 Same as datum.
Cost 3 It uses some specially made parts therefore it has high costs.
5 Safety 10 Equipped with a exposed blade this concept presents a harmful environment to the user.
Ease of use 9 The method uses manual insertion of wire and length is determined by the user to his/her specifications.
Portability 6 Because of its exposed blade, it is harder to transport than the datum.
Use of standard parts 5 It uses a mechanism which can be easily made from parts available. No need of parts specifically made for the concept.
Cost 3 It includes parts which are easily available but costly. Therefore, it has a high build cost.
