Meeting 7: December 2nd - QMIND-Team/Sabermetrics GitHub Wiki
2nd December Meeting Minutes
- This week: moving files into different folders and change directory system.
- Fix and refactor code to prevent import errors and bugs.
- Have a working MARCEL model by the 20th.
- Focus on documentation
- Tutorial video/article
- Blog entries
- Feedback:
- Better documentation
- Uniform code
- Git workflow
- Heading (the next month):
- Predict wins from runs scored and runs allowed.
- We have simple stats and saber stats which can be transformed to other saber stats. These saber stats could be passed through our MARCEL model to get future saber stats.
- What we need to find out: The middle step: the step between our predicted saber stats and getting runs scored/allowed.
- Some approaches: wOBA – pulls all offensive stats and gives them appropriate weights. wRAA – tells us if the person scores above or below league average. These can be used to predict runs scored.
- Find plate appearances/at bats for batters and innings pitched for pitchers. This will tell us the chance of getting runs or conceding runs.
- Research must be focused on predicting runs scored and runs conceded.
- Find other models that we could use and stats
- Look into fangraphs: https://www.fangraphs.com/library/getting-started/ for getting a deeper insight into sabermetrics.
- Find out how to predict runs allowed.
- During holidays: Slack meetings – issues on github – assign members
- Get a wiki page up with resources and research completed.
- Stay off the code base until the directory system has been completely refactored.
