Motor sizing

DC motor

  • Mass of the shaft(m) = 90 grams = 0.09 kgs

  • Radius of the shaft(r) = 0.75 cm

  • Co efficient of friction between nylon rod and foam sheet = 0.06

  • Factor of safety(f) = 1.5

  • Acceleration due to gravity = 9.8m/s^2 = 980cm/s^2

  • FORCE(F) = W * 0.06

      = m * g * 0.06
    
      = 0.09 * 980 * 0.06
    
      = 5.292 N
    
  • TORQUE = F * f * r

       = 5.292 * 1.5 * 0.75
                                  
       =  5.9535 kgcm
    

As the value of Rated Torque is 5.9535 kgcm

We use 30 rpm dc geared motor.

Servo motor

Mass(m) = 5gm

perpendicular distance(r) = 15 cm

Acceleration =9.8 m/s^2

Force(F) = mg =59.8 =49 N factor of saftey(f) =1.5 Torque = Frf = 4915*1.5 = 1102 g-cm = 1.102 Kg-cm

Battery Sizing

Maximum current consumed by the dc motor = 300 mA.

Battery capacity = (Maximum current consumption) * (No. of working hours)

             = (300)*(2)+(170)*(3)
             =1110 mAH.

As we require 2 DC motors and 3 servo motors,

Battery Capacity = 1110 mAH
