  • NEED STATEMENT:

SC hardware industry needs an automatic Nuts sorter depending on dimension , weight etc.

  • INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE MODEL:

We all have that one drawer or box full of random hardware. It is necessary to separate those random fasteners in order to use those in a fast way. So we have designed a nut sorter which can separate nuts according to their sizes.

  • Things used in our model are mesh, foam sheet, IR sensor, adaptor, 2 DC motors, nuts, bolts, L-channel, U-clamps and L-clamps.

1.MESH : Mesh is used to separate nuts based on different sizes.

2.FOAM SHEETS : Used to build the model.

3.IR SENSOR : IR sensor is used to detect the obstacle. When the IR sensor detects the obstacle, the machine stops and starts working again when the obstacle is removed.

4.ADAPTOR : Supplies power to run the machine.

5.DC MOTORS : Converts electrical energy into mechanical energy .

6.L-CHANEL : These L-chanels are used to cover all the four sides of mesh and prevents falling of nuts out of the mesh.

7.L-clamps, U-clamps ,nuts and bolts : Used to join the different parts.

  • Mechanism used in our model is Crank-rocker mechanism.

1.CRANK-ROCKER MECHANISM : In crank-rocker mechanism, the rocker oscillates between two limiting angles. In general, the crank is the input and rocker is the output.

  • HOW DOES OUR MODEL WORK?

We have put 2 different sized mesh which separates 3 diffrent sized nuts. Different sized nuts are poured into a large mesh at the top of the mechanism. The large sized nuts settle on the top mesh, the nuts smaller than that come down and settle on the 2nd mesh and atlast smaller nuts pass through the 2nd mesh and fall in the container. Here, we have used crank-rocker mechanism at 2 sides. Two dc motors are used. A larger crank-rocker mechanism used to push and pull the large mesh and smaller crank-rocker mechanism used to push and pull the smaller mesh. Each mechanism has one dc motor for its working. An IR sensor is used to detect the obstacle. When the IR sensor detects the obstacle , the machine stops working and again starts working when the obstacle is removed.

  • SCOPE FOR THE MODEL
    Particularly in the automotive mechanical industries which are the manufacturer of nuts and bolts. There is need to design a system that seperates the nuts and bolts. The main aim of this study to develop a system to recognise the difference in nuts and bolts for their separation. For the processing of this system, the input is the normalised image of nuts and bolts with its size and dimensions and it can be used for the detection.
