Annealing HTPLA - PrusaMK2Users/MK2_Tips_and_Tricks GitHub Wiki

HTPLA is an "enhanced" PLA that, when annealed (baked in an oven) is both stronger than regular PLA, less brittle, and more heat resistant that ABS. The initial tests were done with MakerGeeks Raptor PLA.

Here are my instructions for annealing HTPLA.

  1. Place printed piece on glass or ceramic or stone
  2. Place an additional ceramic tile (or glass) over the piece to help prevent warping (if piece is flat on top)
  3. Place item in a cold oven
  4. Heat oven to 212F/100C
  5. Set timer for 15 minutes
  6. After 15 minutes, turn oven off - leave oven closed, leave piece in oven
  7. Set timer for 45 minutes
  8. After 45 minutes, remove ceramic or glass tile from the top of piece
  9. Remove piece from oven (it should be pretty cool but not cold)
  10. Item is still somewhat soft, so don’t drop it
  11. Let item cool completely (maybe another 30 minutes)
  12. Item is ready for use!
