Progress - Profitbase/PowerBI-visuals-Gantt GitHub Wiki
Visualizing progress helps report consumers quickly assess project completion and identify lagging tasks. In the Profitbase Gantt Chart visual, progress is rendered directly inside both parent (summary) and child (leaf) taskbars.
To display progress, drag a numeric field from your data model into the Progress bucket in the Build visual pane.
- Expected Values: The values in the bound field must be numeric and range between
0and1(which the visual translates as0%to100%). - Visual Representation: The taskbars render with a shaded completion portion starting from the left edge of the bar.

How Progress Rolls Up to Parent Rows
When tasks are organized in a hierarchy, parent (summary) rows automatically calculate and display an aggregated progress bar.
By default, this is calculated by weighting each task's progress by its calendar duration. For example, a 10-day task will impact the parent phase's progress ten times more than a 1-day task.
Color Customization
Under the Chart Colors card in the Format Pane, you can customize the progress shading color:
- Parent Track Color: Shading color for parent/summary row progress.
- Child Track Color: Shading color for child/leaf row progress.

Customizing Progress Weight (Progress Base)
If you don't want calendar duration to decide how much a task weights towards its parent, you can use the Progress Base bucket. This is highly useful for weighting tasks by actual effort (e.g., Estimated Hours, Budget, or Complexity Points) instead of how long they sit on the calendar.
The Progress Base bucket accepts:
- One numeric field: Uses the field's value (such as a budget or effort hours column) as the weight.
- Two Date/Time fields: Uses the number of days between those two dates as the weight.
How this changes behavior:
- For Parent Rows (Weighting): A task with higher effort carries more weight. For example, if a heavy "Design" task represents 80 hours and a quick "Review" task represents 20 hours, the completed progress of the Design task will count four times as much toward the parent phase's total progress.
- For Child Rows (Switch): Progress base acts as an on/off switch for child tasks. Any task with a zero or blank base value will always render at 0% progress, regardless of its value in the main Progress bucket.
[!WARNING] Important Limitation: Once you bind any field to the Progress Base bucket, calendar duration is ignored as the progress base across the entire visual. If a specific task has a blank or missing base value, it will not fall back to using its duration; it will simply display as 0% complete and will be excluded from the parent row's calculations.
Capping Progress Values (Show 100% as max)
(New in Gantt v3.1)
If your source data contains progress values exceeding 1.0 (100%), the visual's tooltips, taskbars, and grid columns will normally display the raw values (e.g., 120%). To cap this display:
- Open the Format Pane.
- Expand the Chart Options card.
- Toggle Show 100 % as max to On.
