Dynamic Event Markers - Profitbase/PowerBI-visuals-Gantt GitHub Wiki

Dynamic event markers allow you to display key milestones or timelines (such as deadlines, company holidays, project phases, or release dates) as vertical lines running across your Gantt chart. Because these event markers are driven dynamically by your dataset, they automatically adjust as your data model updates.

How to Configure Dynamic Event Markers

Step 1: Set up your source data structure

To drive event markers dynamically, structure your data model to include a table with the event dates and descriptions. These dates do not need to link directly to individual task rows, as they are drawn across the entire visual.

Step 2: Add fields to the event buckets

Drag the fields you want to use from your data model into the data buckets in the Build visual pane:

  • Dynamic event: Drag your date field here to define where the vertical lines are drawn on the timeline.
  • Dynamic event label: Drag the text field containing your event descriptions here to label each vertical line.

How to Style Event Markers

1. Format Pane Settings

You can customize how the event marker lines and text labels look in the Format pane:

  1. Select the Gantt visual.
  2. Open the Format pane.
  3. Locate the Dynamic Events card.

From this card, you can adjust settings like label orientation, font colors, line style, and font sizes to ensure the markers are visible and clear.

2. Timeline Display

Once configured, the event markers appear as vertical dashed lines across your timeline, showing the labels next to each marker.
