Duration - Profitbase/PowerBI-visuals-Gantt GitHub Wiki

The Duration settings card in the Format pane allows report authors to control how task duration values are computed, aggregated, and displayed across the Gantt grid and timeline.

If you map a numerical field in the Duration data bucket (instead of or alongside an End Date), the visual uses these settings to calculate your timeline taskbars.

Duration Options

You can customize your duration layout and arithmetic under the Duration card in the Format pane.

Duration settings in the Format pane

Include Last Day

Toggle this switch to On to include the final date as a full day in duration math.

  • Off (Default): A task starting on Monday and ending on Friday is calculated as 4 days.
  • On: A task starting on Monday and ending on Friday is calculated as 5 days (treating the end date as a full working day).

Unit

Select the timescale unit used to calculate and display task lengths. Available units include:

  • Seconds
  • Minutes
  • Hours
  • Days
  • Weeks
  • Months
  • Years

Calculation method (available from v3.2)

Choose how duration is calculated and aggregated for parent (group) rows:

  • Start to End: Calculates parent row duration as the simple chronological span from the earliest child task's start date to the latest child task's end date.
  • Sum of children: Aggregates parent duration as the mathematical sum of the duration values of all its direct child tasks. This is useful for tracking total person-hours or total effort spent across multiple parallel tasks.

Exclude blanks (available from v3.2)

Toggle this switch to On to ignore tasks with empty or null duration values when aggregating parent row durations (especially when using the Sum of children calculation method).
