Copy data from grid - Profitbase/PowerBI-visuals-Gantt GitHub Wiki

Starting in Gantt v3.x, you can copy data directly from the Gantt chart's data grid and paste it into external applications like Microsoft Excel, Word, or emails.

The copied data keeps its original structure, spacing, and formatting.

How to Copy and Paste Data

Step 1: Select the cells you want to copy

To select cells in the data grid:

  • Select a range: Click and drag your cursor across the cells (task names, managers, dates, etc.) that you want to copy.
  • Select multiple rows: Hold the Ctrl key (or Cmd on Mac) while clicking on different cells.
  • Select a block: Click on the first cell, hold the Shift key, and click on the last cell of the block.

The selected cells will be highlighted in blue:

  • Mac: Cmd + C

Step 3: Paste into Excel or another tool

Open your target application (like Microsoft Excel) and press the paste shortcut:

The pasted text will maintain its grid alignment, group hierarchy (indentation), bold styling, and cell background colors:

What is Preserved when Pasting?

When you copy and paste data from the Gantt grid, the following formatting is preserved:

  • Column and Row Structure: Data stays organized in its correct columns and rows.
  • Text Formatting: Bold, italic, and colored text are carried over exactly as they appear in the visual.
  • Group Styles: Summary/parent rows retain their background fill colors so that the visual hierarchy remains easy to read.
  • Hierarchy Indentation: Child tasks remain indented under their parent groups to preserve the tree structure.
