The Great War

The Fourth Great Maelstrom

1916: Fourth Great Maelstrom begins during the Battle of the Somme. Boston Necropolis sacked by Coldheart.

1917: The Night of Short Chains: European Anacreons imprisoned or soulforged. Smiling Lord claims Onyx Tower and declares himself Imperator of Stygia.

1918: Spanish Flu pandemic begins. Armistice Day. Czar Nicholas II and family executed. Marcus Stavaston assumes command of the Warriors of Lethe.

1920: Emerald Legion defects from New Stygia to join Loyalists.

1929: Fourth Great Maelstrom quelled. Smiling Lord toppled. Charon purges all records of the Insurrection from Imperial histories, and even memories of the events begin to fade.

The Penitent Legion Claiming the victims of Madness, overseen by the new Laughing Lady and quartered at the Seat of Succor.

  • Flesh Corps: The Tide of Horror. Banner is black with red Leviathan rampant. Leviathan is standing a gray, rocky outcropping.
  • Beast Corps: The Razor's Song. Banner is blood red field with a white dog skull center. Skull is muzzled and the reins lead to a black gauntlet below. The gauntlet is clenched and bristling with spikes.
  • The Machine Corps: Soulforged tanks called Juggernauts. Banner is black with a rust red cog wheel in center. a Single red drop of blood is dripping from the cog.

The Loyalists

Constantinople is the administrative center for the Hierarchy operations in Russia and the Balkans. A multi-Legionary force under the command of Wolseley and the Gaunt legion combats Coldheart in Russia.

The Iron Legion Headquartered at the Seat of Shadows and overseen by the Ashen Lady--Ailiandra. The Iron Legion is comprised of the victims of Age.
