Modify the steamnick cvar to immediately change your Steam nickname to the new text.
To indicate color codes you can use either ^ or \ in front of a number.
When you (re)start Quake Live the steamnick cvar will always be initialized with your current Steam nickname.

Alternatively you can set sn_clan, sn_name and sn_suffix, which will automatically be combined into steamnick and keep their value when you (re)start Quake Live.
