Crafting items in Pirate-Era is quite simply, you can craft all items through in game menu's

The first crafting menu is opened with the /PEcraft command.

The menu looks like this

Inside of this menu you can craft your first items.

How to craft better items

To progress in crafting more and better items you have to obtain better crafting menu's than the /PEcraft menu. To unlock these menus you simply have to build the right crafting benches for them.

The first crafting bench you can create is within the /PEcraft menu. This crafting bench is called the Workbench. After you craft the workbench simply place it down inside of your claimed area, and right click it.

When you do this it will open up a menu that allows you to craft more items than before.

Upgrading workbenches

Sometimes you can't find the next workbench to progress with. This is possibly because you have to upgrade your current workbench. To do so simply right-click the workbench with a construction hammer, and upgrade your workbench.

Here is an example of how it will look. Simply press this button with the right amount of materials in your inventory to upgrade your crafting station.

These are all the bench upgrade you can do:

campfire -> furnace
workbench -> advanced workbench
bellows -> advanced bellows
