This area is for retrospective and prior concepts and ideas thoughts that crossed are mind etc.

2022 Retrospective

==================

  • Consider an interface to parts of NOW using Discord bots or related
  • Boards a replacement of typical message boards to a more dynamic colorful "kanban" or flowchart mechanics
  • POOF command for arrival to Park Open and On Forever from anywhere
  • Received approval to use Race for the Galaxy concepts for SF world
  • Implemented NSCRIPT a scripting tool for use with Non Player Characters to allow for information, quests, riddles etc in a natural language. You can say hello, Scaly to try it out.
  • Snow Events - For a snowball fight as well as a number of other winter time activities
  • Pony Village - A scaled down version of the MLP this included a Chargen that "replaces" character with their MLP "alter-ego"
  • Food and Drink Added
  • Restaurants
  • Charter
  • Master Cloth

2021 Retrospective

==================

Another year has passed since we have checked out NOW, and while we didn't accomplish much in the code base, we did start exploring things further. We had a number of blind folks visit NOW and look at the MENU as something encouraging and being an accessibility helper. We tried simulating what might be an example of the interface for the starter world.

General

  • Enterprise (Business) Requirements - Why we need this
  • Functional Requirements - How things should be done / requisites
  • Garden (Spawner) - Something that grows things to build other things (see below)
  • Cookbook (Crafter) - What happens when you mix things
  • Message Board (In house system) - Similar to Discord style
  • 🪨 Rock, Paper, Scissors, Spock, Lizard
  • 🌉 Room of Requirement
  • 🗼 Views (to other places/zones)

How about tutorial ideas

  1. Wake up and get Desced
  2. Get to School 🏫
  3. Homeroom
  4. M E 🦾
  5. Lunch - Clubs/Exploration
  6. Secrets of the Universe 🧑‍🔬 / 🐺
  7. After School Special
  8. Where do I go from here

And finally, there was the inspiration - at a cost for one of the first mini-games Hello Goodbye, Treasure - but more on that later

2020 Retrospective

==================

As we put this year to an end, I can say that this has been one of the more fortunate years NOW has seen, I had two folks engage with getting us up to 0.9 - this meant a lot to me. The personal year on the contrary like probably many of other folks brought a lot of sadness. ''Shaia'' however is a new shining star to help get NOW up to date, though she gives me things to think about as the code continues.

  • We learned of the shortcoming of Evennia as a whole such as it non player/builder oriented system, many of those folks familiar with MUCK talk about the lack of functionality - nonetheless when I bring up the Why and What would make it, I rarely get an answer.
  • I've got some goals to accomplish this year, filling out the ''Menus'' being the big one, but also determining the primitives needed for a survival oriented games.
  • Emotionally folks have been supportive and popped on in, though limited stays but give a helpful nod so that's nice.
  • Shaia is on all the times so the place is never empty which is nice in case someone pops in - try using the PUB to get your message over
  • We now need folks with the more MUD experience that have played in survival games to perhaps help us along, though again NOW is meant to be Social and MUDs in different places

So here I say to a shiny 2021 where we start building a game and a player base for folks to enjoy

2020 Migration

==============

A new series of volunteers have decided to take on the cause and help me with NOW. We are going to move the code base to 0.9 by August and start migrating the customization over that make NOW unique from its Evennia brethren. 0.9 represents a big change going from Python 2 to Python 3 as well as new version of Django and many other things. We hope it will be seamless but with those of you watching feel free to pop in and come to talk and help.

2020 Talks

=============

  • Discussions I have had with other to define NOW using Evennia Jayren April

2020 Wishlist

=============

Again as we enter a unique time in our world history I come back to this little project that gnaws at me. I want this to succeed but I have yet to utilize the resources or have a cohesive idea of everything I would like to get a vibrant player base. Here are some things brought up.

  1. Some sort of internal interpreter - since this is primarily a social place being able to show off your prowess seems important to the player base that I have talked to. This, of course, leads into the security model
    • Server Permissions
    • Room Permissions
    • Personal Permission
    • Public Permissions
  2. Programmer Access
    • What needs be programmed in - at what level does a player design end and a programmer design begin

These are just the most basic of thoughts that I ponder as I move into a new year. That and well upgrading to Evennia 0.9 .

2019 Overview

=============

What to Hope For and Expect

As we start the New Year more ideas inspire Tricuspa, of what NOW could be. After “Reading” the novel Ready, Player One she considers making a text version of the Oases. Many of the concepts conveyed in the story seem amusing, though she admits the book is more like junk food, chock full of eighties nostalgia. Nonetheless many of the ideas from the book actually make reference to text adventures and more primitive mediums of GUI the protagonist could just as well be using text to convey what’s happening – I mean it is a book after all and so much of the story require a relatively low set of computer requirement in this day and age that a close experience could be created on NOW.

Of course this requires inspired folks, development, developers, programmers and the usual set of suspects in order to make NOW a better experience for anyone coming to it. Still it gives potential for the future.

What to attempt to accomplish?

  • Get the Production version of NOW to work on the Development Raspberry Pi
  • Implement the seven attribute system
  • Flesh out thirty two of the zones in the NOW grid
  • Get some folks that will be content to help develop NOW (programmer, designers, writers).
  • Have folks that regularly sign on

2018 Review

===========

It was a hard year but good things still happened

Amber attempted to train a number of folks on how to start up Evennia, program, test and be her support. Tricuspa was going to give up her full-time job in order to be able to provide better support the place and Amber. That of course didn’t pale out and Amber decided it was time to go for an indefinite period of time and work on other personal endeavors. NOW went down for an extended period of time as no one seemed to know how to restart it and the password was forgotten. It seemed a bit bleak of a year.

Nonetheless dreams still persisted

A system for building areas was completed by Amber to convert maps from a particular program to the standard for Evennia. While it doesn’t automate exits it has a GUI front end that makes things easier to create large places.

Supernormality.net became the domain name and now.supernormality.net the location of NOW for easier access to it.

Eventually Tricuspa was able to get to Lazylion and get the password reset to production, the database was moved to Tricuspa’s Raspberry PI for 24/7 development server. J.P. was able to get PYENV to work properly on the Pi.

Tricuspa learned more about documenting processes and began to update parts of the Wiki. Nyni was able to get another instance of Evennia working on the Raspberry Pi, though the core version which runs would not allow connections to it.

Nyni got her first permanent work so was able to get a more powerful PC so she could improve her coding skills and have a PC capable of being able to do more things and help her with continued learning.

Tricuspa read a number of good books one of which gave her a better grasp of Linux, while a couple other taught her a few things about the Raspberry Pi. In addition in one of her books it recommended seven traits which she adapted to NOW in the hopes of creating a better way for folks to recognize their own greatness and perhaps get a better understanding of each other.

So with that 2018 came to an end
