GRI Shadow Hearts (added 2022/06/28)

  • one problem with GRI is the simplicitity of 1x1 fights
  • One way to remedy this is by adding Shadow Hearts QTE (that affects multiple turns at once)
  • Then you can also add demonic transformations and bam Brazilian Shadow Hearts (with jobs?)
  • Shadow Hearts QTE is EASIER to add than party-based combat, but then you might aswell just bite the bullet and create your new break battle system with party members instead of being so timid

GRI with Graphics (added 2022/06/21)

  • still character full body portrait during battle VS monsters (potentially pixel art battle? Or similar to dungeon game square enix, or even similar to Darkest Dungeon)
  • cutscenes as visual novel
  • Keep the skillset system OR very simple job system with five jobs (can pick which ones you get first), then change them into specialization jobs (mage, guard/counter-attacker, fast-attacker, slow-attacker, buffer-debuffer) job reusable in later games, but current system is also ok
  • everything else the same kinda (remove risk and reduce time, increase learning)

GRI from now on (2022/06/03)

I am still considering launching this game on console. To do that this version of GRI needs to find some love lol. I got burned with the weapon practice system, so I kinda want to play it safer. Persona-like system is nice and dandy but it needs a lot of text to work. It is hard to know if a system without all the text would work well. It would probably need a lot of tweaking :( I think I'm better off focusing on more Arcanum (very fantasy / lore-strong / curiosity) & Spark (very procedural like and potential for infinite content) related systems, which are proven to work. After I get a good game structure working, then I can either remake the battle system or add more social link related mechanics on top of a better base.

Persona-like is a possibility

If you are worried about having to build hundred of social links, create the social links first as proof of concept before making the game. Shouldn't take that long. Then you can dive more into development.
