"an update is available" (oh! really?)
what to do when, upon starting a program, you see a supposedly significant pop-up, waving in front of your face the message "an update is available":
- be sure to click the "Cancel" button (if no "Cancel" button, see below); no excuses, if you doing otherwise!
- wait a few days (for values of "few" not less than 30, unless it's an urgent bug-fix update)
- seek for info, regarding potential bad side effects and other problems caused by this very update
- finally, apply the update but not before you have taken backups of any data that might affected by the update
what to do when see no "Cancel" button:
- be strong-minded and relentless
- shut down and reboot computer (if needed, though it's wise to do so, even when a restart isn't explicitly asked)
- after restarting, immediately do uninstall this "update-demanding" program
- never install it again
- report to whom, in your opinion, the case may concern (usually, every decent user on the globe, the authors of the program included)
- seek for alternative program to replace this greedy for updates "little rascal"
- chances are, you'll find a better one than that
(if you don't find, go to "wait a few days" step above and carefully proceed as advised)
