When thrown by a dispenser or by pressing the use button, a birt egg has a 1⁄8 (12.5%) chance of spawning a baby birt. If this occurs, there is a 1⁄32 (3.125%) chance of spawning three additional baby birts (on average, 1 out of every 256 eggs spawns 4 birts). In other words, whenever an egg is thrown, there is a 31⁄256 chance of spawning 1 birt and a 1⁄256 chance of spawning 4 birts.

Players or dispensers are able to throw birt eggs as projectiles and deal damage to other mobs or players. They deal 2 hp on impact, and also apply a new effect Birt'd for 3 seconds ( 60 ticks ).
