Licensing - PatternAgents/SitV GitHub Wiki

License: CC BY-NC 4.0

The following licensing provisions apply to the "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) hardware design, the Spoken Into The Void" firmware and its source code bundle (repository), and to the associated documentation for both the hardware and the firmware and its source code.

Summary

If you are making SIV modules for your own personal use or to give to your friends, go right ahead! You are most welcome.

If you are offering SIV PCBs, panels, kits or partially- or fully-assembled modules for sale, then please contact the developers to let us know what you intend, and to make arrangements for paying royalties for commercial use. Royalties are set at 5% of the average selling price (ASP) and payable to PatternAgents, LLC via Paypal

Schematic

The schematic for the SIV module is copyright "PatternAgents, LLC" and is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license.

Anyone wishing to use the SIV schematic to create a derivative version of the "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) module hardware is welcome to do so provided that you observe the requirements of the CC-BY-NC-SA license. If you are using the schematic to create a derived version of SIV (eg for a different format, or with a different module layout or width), the NC (non-commercial) clause of the license means that you may NOT sell that version without obtaining written, explicit permission to do so from the copyright holder (PatternAgents, LLC). Commercial use royalties are set at 5% of the average selling price (ASP) and payable to PatternAgents, LLC via Paypal

Layout and CAD Files

The Layout, Gerbers, and other CAD files for the SIV module are copyright "PatternAgents, LLC" and is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license.

Anyone wishing to use the SIV schematic to create a derivative version of the "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) module hardware is welcome to do so provided that you observe the requirements of the CC-BY-NC-SA license.

PCB Panels, Kits, Partially-Assembled and Fully-Assembled Modules

The implementation(s) of the "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) module are copyright "PatternAgents, LLC" and is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license.

Anyone wishing to produce PCB Panels, Kits, Partially-Assembled and Fully-Assembled Modules, or other implementations of the "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) module hardware is welcome to do so provided that you observe the requirements of the CC-BY-NC-SA license. The NC (non-commercial) clause of the license means that you may NOT sell that version without obtaining written, explicit permission to do so from the copyright holder (PatternAgents, LLC). Commercial use royalties are set at 5% of the average selling price (ASP) and payable to PatternAgents, LLC via Paypal

Firmware

The "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) firmware bundle comprises all the source code contained in the GitHub repositories at the following URLs, and any clones or copies of those repositories:

https://github.com/PatternAgents/SitV/ (repository for released versions, as well as developmental versions)

Most of the individual source code files in the repository have MIT license headers, and the copyright holders for them are shown in that header. A few files lack such headers, in which case, the files are copyright Tom Moxon/PatternAgents, LLC 2017, 2018 and should be considered to have an MIT license attached to them.

Some of the source code files have been written by third parties, and the relevant copyrights are shown in the license headers in those files. In particular, quite a few of the files are copyright O. Gillet 2013-2015, or are copyright P. Stoffregen (PJRC.COM LLC) 2012-2016, and have been released by their authors under an MIT license which permits their re-use and adaption as part of the SIV firmware bundle.

Documentation

The "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) build guide, the user manuals, and web pages, are copyright "PatternAgents, LLC" and is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license. The NC (non-commercial) clause of the license means that you may NOT sell those materials without obtaining written, explicit permission to do so from the copyright holder (PatternAgents, LLC). Commercial use royalties are set at 5% of the average selling price (ASP) and payable to PatternAgents, LLC via Paypal

When Used with "Ornament and Crime" or "Temps Utile"

The "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) design is independent of, and not related to either the "Ornament and Crime" or "Temps Utile" designs by MXMXMX (Max Stadler). However, the "Spoken Into The Void" (SIV) design CAN be used with either the "Ornament and Crime" or "Temps Utile" modules and firmware. When Used with "Ornament and Crime" or "Temps Utile", then the licensing terms for those products apply - see the "Ornament and Crime" website for details.
