1. Introduction - Patimarron/OSAS-Device GitHub Wiki
The Spanish Society of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery (SEORL-CCC) defines Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) as the occurrence of recurrent episodes of upper airway obstruction of at least 10 seconds duration ( called apnea), that occurs during sleep. Despite being more frequent in adults, children are not exempt from this pathology.
Moreover, it is estimated that between 25 and 30% of children under five years of age have problems or sleep disturbances of various kinds, including sleep apnea, according to the Spanish Association of Primary Care Pediatrics. In children, this condition can become even more worrisome than in older people, reaching asphyxiation.
When a sleep apnea occurs, the heart rate (BPM) is affected, accelerating at first and then slowing down at the time of suffocation.
That is why we have designed this device for children of 6 or more months. For this, a pulsimeter is used placed on the big toe. When the pulsations vary from the normal parameters, it is sent to the mother, father or guardian of the child. This person will receive the signal from a bracelet which will emit a light and vibrate, to be able to stimulate and wake the person in case he is also sleeping.
