These are my notes to get Ubuntu working on a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon (June 2018).

Installation Steps

  1. Create a Bootable disk on Windows
    1. https://rufus.akeo.ie/
    2. https://www.ubuntu.com/download
  2. Reboot with your USB plugged in in order to test Ubuntu behaves well with your machine, or find out what doesn't. Real installation starts then!
  3. Check if UEFI is used or not. If used, check your EFI settings to disable Secure Boot. (BOOT Settings > ``)
  4. Shrink Windows partition
    1. From Windows, open Command Prompt and run diskmgmt.msc to start Disk management utility.
    2. Windows takes hell of a place, I took all the rest to shrink its partition
