Pac-Man
Pac-Man, created by Toru Iwatani and released by Namco in 1980 (distributed by Midway Games in the US), revolutionized gaming. It became a global phenomenon, breaking sales records and reshaping the industry.
Inspired by a slice of pizza, Iwatani's vision was to create a game accessible to all, departing from violent themes prevalent at the time. Players guide Pac-Man through mazes, devouring pellets while evading ghosts. Its success transcended gaming, spawning merchandise, TV shows, and even music hits like "Pac-Man Fever." Originally "Puck-Man," the name was changed for cultural reasons. Today, Pac-Man remains an iconic figure, its legacy immortalized across various platforms, marking a pivotal moment in gaming history.
