Installfest

An Installfest (a portmanteau of installation and festival) is an event at which people get together to do mass installations of computer operating systems or software, most often Linux and other open source software.

It is generally an advocacy and community-building event, where novices bring their computers along with their preferred operating system installation disks to the location of the installfest, and experienced users help them in getting started and troubleshooting problems.

Cryptoparty

A CryptoParty is a decentralized movement with events happening all over the world. The goal is to pass on knowledge about protecting yourself in the digital space. This can include encrypted communication, preventing being tracked while browsing the web, and general security advice regarding computers and smartphones.

It can be seen as a form of Installfest combined with a key signing party, although it can also feature workshops or lectures. The goal is to help people setup encryption, not only share knowledge, but be more hands-on.

Lightning talks

A lightning talk is a very short presentation lasting only a few minutes (usually 5, but max 10). Several lightning talks will usually be delivered by different speakers in a single session, sometimes called a data blitz.

Bring your infectious enthusiasm to an audience with a short attention span! Discuss a program, system or technique! Pitch your projects and ideas! Whatever you bring, make it quick!

Crypto Flea market

Run your own decentralized crypto market? Accept only cryptos, help merchants and buyers set up. You can combine it with lightning talks, food and music. Help people create the parallel economy themselves!

Networking

Usually combined with Lightning talks or any other type of event, it is something like a group speed-dating. The moderator encourages people to find groups of 3-7 people where they know as little people as possible and talk about some interesting questions, up to three questions can be asked ("Do you like crypto? Why?", "What does freedom mean to you?", "What do you do?"). When everyone answers, the group can talk and after a fixed time, the groups should shuffle.
