There should be different designs for different types of ships in the game. However, they should have the same theme. For example:

Grid
The design of the grid should be simple as well as make sure players are able to distinguished which tiles have been shot, or tiles where a ship is placed. For example:

White tiles are those that have not been shot. Shaded tiles are those that have been shot. Tiles with red X inside are those where a ship is placed.
