Motivation

Key factors of overall performance:

  1. Energy
  2. Knowledge
  3. Resources
  • For Knowledge see self-education guide
  • For Resuorces see Networking and Capital guides

In this guide I describe the key factors influencing our energy. I found the next:

  1. Sleep hours and quality
  2. Days w/o sex
  3. Coffee
  4. Expectations from a day
  5. Sport
  6. Food
  7. Weather

However, the influence sometimes is not obvious:

  1. More sleep more energy (w\o exceptions, super significant)
  2. More days w\o sex more energy (w\o exceptions, super significant)
  3. With coffee you have more energy for the next 8h, then big drop and the next day the effect is worse; after a week with coffee the next 1-2 days without are really bad. Recommendation: use only for a special day as a secret weapon. (significant effect)
  4. Positive expectations add energy when negative significantly reduce it. (significant effect). Recommendation: you need to organize your day in a way to have something pleasant or at least every time exactly know how to start a day (do not have super difficult tasks)
  5. Sport (super significantly) effects but with a latency. Moreover, it depends on the intensivity (if too much you will fill lack of energy around 2 days). However, with sport your overall weekly energy are much higher. Recomendation: do sports but do not get too tired
  6. Food (significantly) effects the energy. The content acording to my research does not play significant role, however it is imoprtant how much you eat. Recomendation: eat whatever you think healthy is, but eat just less and more frequently.
  7. Weather (significantly) influence the energy in a way that sunny weather makes you a bit happier giving you more energy. Of cource it depends on how big exposure you have to a weather (ex. office VS outside). But you need to use this weather correctly: go ourside for a 30 min
  8. Rest during the work (super significant effect). Remember you MUST rest BEFORE you feel that you NEED a rest.

Research Fuckup

This project showed me how important to measure the data unbiased. I collected to data the in the end executed a multivariable linear regression. However, the results were obviously biased, since my internal understanding significantly differed from the results.

My mistakes:

  1. Wrong time of collecting the data (I did it in the morning -> sport, food observations were biased). Moreover, it does not reflect the whole day, but only the first several hours...
  2. Come up with the right scale: inifially I used 1-10 scoring. It was totally useless, since this system created the source of errors. Too many options. Bad, OK, Great - is almost everythime enough
  3. Sleep, Sex, Coffee and Sport all they influence more than just one single day, moreover the effect sometimes comes with latency. It was important to measure data without any breaks. I didn't manage this correctly.

In the end: the data and final regression were not reliable, but my actual observation let me know the answer anyway. Do research!

Some observations:

  1. You have much more energy without coffee (on the long run) do not dring it every day it is dead end activity
  2. Make sure you the quality of your sleep is good enough (quality is more important than number of hours)
