Design Project 2 - ICS

Project Information

Tasks

  • In Design Project 2, we will deploy a network that builds on our research from Design Project 1. We'll continue to study ICS, focusing more on the deployment, troubleshooting, and attacks one could carry against these systems. We'll set up a test network with a few devices, Global Protect VPN, Control Server, and, ideally, our ICS devices, with a C2 server (Covenant), time permitting. The purpose of this project is to document the entire setup and troubleshooting process so that during implementation, it is as simple as following instructions, leaving more room for other steps like automation. We will also take time (as available) to test hardware and software options, specifically the OpenPLC (again, availability permitting).
    • Summary: Our goal is to set up the SCADA network and acquire more SCADA devices after meeting with a supplier.

Sprint 2: Week 1 and 2 - Level 1: Controls

Level 1 controls comprise various systems that monitor and send commands to devices at level 0. https://www.lannerinc.com/news-and-events/eagle-lanner-tech-blog/purdue-model-for-industrial-control-system-ics

  • Batch Control
  • Discrete Control
  • Continuous Process Control
  • Safety Control

Sprint 2: Week 3-5 - Set up Process Control/SCADA Zone

Level 2: Area Supervisory Control devices control the overall processes within the system to supervise, monitor, and control physical processes. https://www.lannerinc.com/news-and-events/eagle-lanner-tech-blog/purdue-model-for-industrial-control-system-ics
