Meridian Depthworks Centre

The Meridian Depthworks Centre (M.D.C.) is the primary subterranean research facility operated by Parafield Scientific Innovators, housing the decommissioned S.F.R. Mark I superstructure, its successor the Mark II, and classified Sector D research wings.

Meridian Depthworks Centre
Type Subterranean research complex
Operator Parafield Scientific Innovators
Power source S.F.R. Mark II (Mark I decommissioned after 1987)
Sectors A, B, C, D, Tartarus Zone
AI FAMS
Status Operational, reopened 2018 after post 1987 closure

History

Originally established by Parafield Corp as the Meridian Scientific Centre on the Northminster salt deposit, the facility was renamed Meridian Depthworks Centre in the 1950s as work shifted to deep subterranean operations. Sector D wing has not been cleared for structural safety since the collapse in 82. Executive functions consolidated in Sector C. Deep disposal routed to Tartarus.

The 1987 Thermal Runaway decommissioned Mark I and closed the facility until its 2018 reopening. Reactor operations now run on the Mark II core. Full reactor history is covered in S F R Mark I.

Layout

Sector A

Habitable operations side. Separated from Sector B by the Blast Vault Door, automatically sealed by F.A.M.S. on radiation above 500 rads. Source: PSI-EMERGENCY-B-87.

Sector B

Reactor cavern. Originally contained the 20 meter Mark I sphere, First Wall shielding, lithium blanket loop, six C-2500 units, and lead lined nitrogen cooled fuel racks. Mark I was decommissioned after 1987; Mark II now operates here. Water suppression is locked out. Halon 1301 and Lith-X are the only authorized agents. Sources: PSI-SOP-B-REAC, PSI-FUEL-MAT-001.

Sector C

Executive overlook. Prime Minister office and Site Director quarters. Location of VITAL-CRITICAL-092 and VITAL-AFTERMATH-09.

Sector D

Critical Experimental Wing deep site. Salt mine vault used for Vitals nursery with Vesta containers, rocking chair, and rug. Life support set to nursery optimal with encryption wipe by F.A.M.S. Sources: VITALS-INITIATIVE, VITALS-MEETING-001. See Vitals Initiative.

Tartarus Zone

Deep disposal vaults. Spent cells remain activated for 400 years and arrive by automated rail. Source: PSI-FUEL-MAT-001.

Central Mainframe

Housing for F.A.M.S. Contains one manual override for Desync Vent Protocol. Remaining overrides are distributed across server rooms. Source: PSI-EMERGENCY-B-87.

Systems

  • F.A.M.S. Autocontrol, isolation, intercoms, logging, wiping. Susceptible to ghost alerts when bit flipped.
  • Acheron System Deep vent sump 3 miles below floor, 4 meter pipes, Hell's Throat gate at STI 7.0. Vents tritium away from inhabited sectors.
  • Borated Water Pit 50 meter pit below chamber for four cell ejection within seconds level synchronization.
