**Descriptions of the PCORnet Committee Chair Positions **

*Note: These were the descriptions used in the “Call for Nominations,” and may be modified as appropriate during charter development.

Data Committee Chair

The Data Committee Chair will serve as the Chair of the PCORnet Data Committee. The role of the Data Committee, as defined in the PCORnet Governance Policies is to:

  • Oversee PCORnet’s data network which is managed by the Coordinating Center
  • Stimulate informatics and research data innovations that advance the goals of PCORnet

Other activities may include:

  • Identify high priority data domains for inclusion in the data network
  • Develop and propose annual updates of the Common Data Model
  • Develop and propose optional modules to the Common Data Model
  • Monitor data quality of the DRN (will require regular reporting from the CC)
  • Monitor the use of the PopMedNet Query Tool in collaboration with the CC
  • Develop and oversee processes for requesting access to the DRN query tool in collaboration with the CC

Key requirements for the Chair position:

  • Recognized national leader in one of the following areas:
    • Informatics and health services research
    • Epidemiology with expert knowledge in other areas.
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical research
  • Ability to work cooperatively with multiple stakeholders with varying perspectives
  • Track record of ability to implement complex multi-stakeholder-driven recommendations
  • Commitment to PCORnet’s success as a national research network

The Immediate tasks for the Data Committee Chair are to lead the formation of the Committee by selecting up to 10 members, lead the development of the Data Committee Charter, and to obtain PCORnet Council approval of the charter by mid-February. At least two of the members will be patients. The members must be drawn from voting members of the PCORnet Council of their designees. The overall duties of the Chair are to:

  • Convene and lead the Data Committee
  • Develop Work Groups as needed
  • Participate on the Executive Committee as a non-voting member
  • Coordinate Committee activities with Executive Committee and other Committees
  • Plan activities for 2016
  • Implement activities cooperatively with the PCORnet Coordinating Center

Engagement Committee Chair

The Engagement Committee Chair will serve as the Chair of the PCORnet Engagement Committee. The role of the Engagement Committee, as defined in the PCORnet Governance Policies is to:

  • Design, continuously improve, and oversee PCORnet’s system of engagement of patients, clinicians, research, health systems leaders, industry, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Review and make recommendation to the PCORnet Council for approval of Network engagement policies and standard operating procedures.

Key requirements for the Chair position:

  • Leader in engaging patients, communities, researchers and stakeholders in research
  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical research
  • Ability to work cooperatively with multiple stakeholders with varying perspectives
  • Track record of ability to implement complex multi-stakeholder-driven recommendations
  • Commitment to PCORnet’s success as a national research network

The Immediate tasks for the Engagement Committee Chair are to lead the formation of the Committee by selecting up to 10 members, lead the development of the Engagement Committee Charter, and to obtain PCORnet Council approval of the charter by mid-February. Three members of the Committee must be patients and other stakeholders must also be represented. The members must be drawn from voting members of the PCORnet Council of their designees. The overall duties of the Chair are to:

  • Convene and lead the Engagement Committee
  • Develop Work Groups as needed
  • Participate on the Executive Committee as a non-voting member
  • Coordinate Committee activities with Executive Committee and other Committees
  • Plan activities for 2016
  • Implement activities cooperatively with the PCORnet Coordinating Center

Research Committee Chair

The Research Committee Chair will serve as the Chair of the PCORnet Research Committee. The role of the Research Committee, as defined in the PCORnet Governance Policies is to:

  • Design, continuously improve, and oversee PCORnet’s research activities including generating and prioritizing research concepts, ensuring research quality, and developing research partnerships
  • Determine whether to assign PCORnet study designation to individual projects when principal investigators request such designation

Key requirements for the Chair position:

  • Recognized national leader in one of the following areas:
    • Health services or clinical research
    • Epidemiology with expert knowledge in other areas
    • Community-engaged research
    • Bioethicist with considerable empirical experience
  • Ability to work cooperatively with multiple stakeholders with varying perspectives
  • Track record of ability to implement complex multi-stakeholder-driven recommendations
  • Commitment to PCORnet’s success as a national research network
