Reset NIM Crates and Vetos - PADME-Experiment/padme-fw GitHub Wiki
This procedure must be followed if the vetos are not showing up in the monitor page or answering to commands or the trigger board gives problems in the initialization.
note: the new NIM crate switch ON/OFF procedure now involves ALL its dependencies, i.e. it will switch ON/OFF accordingly to the operation you will perform the Veto System connected to that crate [remind: left nim crate : eveto - right nim crate : pveto and hepveto] and handles correctly eveto 4 and pveto 6
New procedure since October 2020
You have to enter in the new Damage Control System webpage on https://l0padme1:8888/ and enter with YOUR username/password : all operations are logged and we want to know WHO did an operation and WHEN.
All the shifters should be authorized to access the new DCS. The (hopefully updated) list of authorized accounts can be found here. In case of doubts and/or if you do not have yet an authorized userid, you are free to call "expert" people doing the operation (and ask Venelin to provide you with an autorized userid on the DCS control).
Once you are inside the Damage Control System page you have to go to the Configuration menu (top of page, green) Once there you will see DCS System with a round circle near it on the right. Click on the circle and it will start display its dependencies : First PADME/Padme Experiment
Here again click on the circle on the left
It will start displaying its dependencies (each voice with a round circle on its right) :
- calorimeter/calorimeter
- DAQ system/DAQ crates
- vetos/the vetos
Click on the circle near vetos/the vetos and it will show you (with operation buttons on the right) :
- NIM right
- NIM left
You have to press normally the "full op." buttons and only AFTER switch to the Run Ops page from its menu on the top of the page (green) to actually execute the "transition" you have requested: till now no operation has yet been made
Once in this page (with the person making the operation listed on the left) you will see the operation request you have made with 2 buttons on the extreme right :
- check
- stop
Press on check and it should display start and stop buttons if the crate is OFF, or if the crate is ON you will only see a stop button.
NOW you have to press the stop (or start button; it depends on what you have to do) and wait till the operation has finished.
If you have pressed the stop button to pull down the crate the operation line should disappear from the list.
if you have pressed the start button to pull up the crate you should next see the line with ONLY the stop button.
Please control on the new DCS monitor page enu_experiments_submenu_padme_nim;theme=slate if the procedure has actually done what you expected (wait : the monitor line pointsif the procedure has actually done what you expected (wait : the monitor line points udate ONLY each 30 secs, so probably you have to wait to see the operation executed).
Now you can return to the welcome user (your username) page (top page, green) and logoff from there.
Good luck !!!!
OLD Easy procedure -- discouraged by now
Connect to dcs@l0padme1 and use the command "off_nim_left" to turn off the crate NIM on the left of the calorimeter and "off_nim_right" to do the same thing on the right crate. Turn them back on using "on_nim_left" and "on_nim_right".
OLD Less-easy procedure -- discouraged by now
There are 2 NIM crate on the right side of ECal when seen from the back in BTF (IP=192.168.62.20) and the other on the left side close to the wall (IP=192.168.62.21). The first crate house the Trigger Board AND the PVeto/HEPVeto HV and amplified readout from SiPMs. The second crate house the Eveto HV and electronics.
- Type "telnet 192.168.62.20 8100" or "telnet 192.168.62.21 8100"
- then type "CAEN" (uppercase!) and "↵" (return).
- Type "c" to display the crate map.
- Type "o" and then "↵" to turn the crate off. Wait till you see the VME currents and fan speeds go to 0.
- Type "o" and then "↵" again to turn the crate back on. Wait till VME currents and fan speeds are back to normal.
- Type "q" and "↵" to exit, then "q" and "↵" again, "ctrl"+"]" to get the telnet prompt,
- and finally type "quit" and "↵".
In case you follow the reset procedure YOU HAVE TO RESET THE VETOS MANUALLY as described in the Setup Vetos shifter page.
