Hermit crabs are crustaceans of the superfamily Paguroidea that have evolved to shield their delicate exoskeletons by occupying empty scavenged mollusc shells. They are known for being popular pets, with downsides, as the fact they are popular with children makes for common bad husbandry such as people painting their shells. They are omnivorous scavengers, eating microscopic mussels and clams, bits of dead animals, and macroalgae.

Variants

Hermit Crabs have 3 different variants, with two different shell types. These include (from left to right):

Strawberry Hermit Crab | Coenobita perlatus

Blueberry Hermit Crab | Coenobita purpureus

Red Sea Hermit Crab | Coenobita scaevola

Spawning and Biomes

Hermit Crabs spawn on beaches. They have a 10% spawn rate and spawn in groups of 1-3.

Drops

Hermit Crabs drop Crab Claws. They have 4 hit points.

Behaviour

All Hermit Crabs have no sleeping AI, and thus are always active. They are passive.

Breeding

Hermit Crabs are unable to have babies. They are not planned to be able to breed.
