Concept generation for the Welcome Bot involves developing alternative design ideas and mechanisms to achieve its primary role of greeting, assisting, and guiding users in public or institutional spaces. At this stage, different subsystems and interaction methods are explored, such as gesture recognition, voice communication, mobility systems, and display interfaces.

The aim is to generate multiple concepts that can perform essential functions like detecting users, initiating communication, providing guidance, and moving within the environment. Various mechanical structures (wheeled vs. stationary), sensor arrays (camera + IR vs. gesture sensors), and communication interfaces (touch display, voice synthesis, facial expressions) are considered.

The generated concepts are later evaluated based on safety, ease of use, portability, adherence to standards, cost, reliability, and performance, to select the most suitable design for implementation.

4.1 Establishing functions

The primary function of the Welcome Bot is to interact with and assist users by combining detection, communication, and mobility.

#Design 1

VOICE CONTROLLED BOT: This is also one of the design of bot which detects hand gesture and voice input and uses camera + microphone.Responds with voice and shows direction and there is no need of physical touch to the bot

#Design 2

MOBILE ROBOT WITH ARM: This uses differential drive wheel mechanism for movement and arm servo motor + link mechanism. It also detects visitor using ultrasonic/PIR sensor and provides voice + visual guidance.

#Design 3

HEXAPOD WALKING BOT Hexapod walking bot moves in any direction (stable).It also uses servo motors + linkage mechanism and it detects visitor and interacts via voice. This bot helps in navigation and guidance.

#Design 4

ELEVATOR LIKE GUIDANCE BOT This WELCOME BOT involves vertical lifting platform(lead-screw) and raises/lowers display to visitor height.

#Design 5

ROTATING PLATFORM WELCOME BOT This rotating platform welcome bot is motorized turntable, it's platform rotates to face the reqired direction/department.
