How to create tasks on the WorkerHelp issue tracker

This issue tracker is intended for short term tasks that could be done by a volunteer in up to a few hours. Longer term projects should be discussed on the mailing list. It is expected that tasks will be created by the directors and technicians. Normal users who realise a task should be done should mention it on the mailing list. This page will explain how to create a new task.

Task creation

Create a new task using the new issue button on the issue tracker page. Provide a concise title for the task. Write a description of what should be done to complete the task. Images may be useful for describing the task. These can be attached following the link at the bottom of the comment box or dragging and dropping an image into the comment box. If there is a deadline for the task to be completed, please make this clear in the task description.

Labels can be applied by selecting them from the drop down list that appears when clicking on the labels section to the right of the issue topic. Please apply relevant labels to the issue:

  • Help wanted: Tasks with this label may already have one or more volunteers working on them, but are still looking to increase the team size.
  • On site: These tasks require you to be at the hackspace to perform them, for example taking an inventory of equipment in the electronics room.
  • Remote: These tasks can be performed elsewhere, for example researching whether a tool will meet our needs.
  • Recurring: These tasks are expected to be performed regularly on ongoing basis, for example clearing up after social night.
  • Deadline: These tasks have a specific deadline, for example setting up some equipment for a hackathon. The deadline will be mentioned in the issue page.
